Inquiry about obtaining API key while new registrations are closed

The registration page now states that new API key registrations are currently closed. I wanted to ask if there is any alternative way to obtain an API key during this period or if there is an estimated timeline for reopening registrations.

On the governance side, there is no interest in putting resources into this :(

I'm leaning towards implementing a setup that allows a user to get a key that's temporary. Temporary being it's valid for a period of time, and with request per second restrictions and leave it at that for an indefinite amount of time. This should be flexible enough to support the build an-app/learning/class use scenarios.

For a time line, my estimate is in the next two week.s

You should be able to use the Register endpoint to request and receive a key now in the JSON response. There is no verification/confirmation step.

I'll update the documentation when I get more time to reflect this change. It's likely we'll at some point purge these keys, but they should be fine for the intended purpose of learning, experimentation, and trial for now.
