DLSS-NR 0.0.1.1 for Windows

@Uzbekunknown Uzbekunknown released this 09 Oct 09:59

A diagnostics update of 0.0.1, after the first report from an Arc B580 (#12): when setup cannot install, it now says why.

What's new in 0.0.1.1

  • The setup window names each check that failed, and why, instead of only "fix the reported items".
  • Save report now carries the checks, the version of your nvngx_dlssnr.dll (and whether it is 310.8.0.0, the one tested), and what the weight extractor said last.
  • The checks give a fresh Python environment 30 s instead of 4, and name VCOMP140.DLL, with a link to the Visual C++ Redistributable, when a library does not load.

The runtime, the layer and every DLL are the same as in 0.0.1. To update, extract this release over 0.0.1's folder; a game NR was installed into from another folder needs Remove NR from that folder first.

You need

  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and an Intel Xe2 GPU. Tested on an Arc 140V (Lunar Lake) with Intel's driver 32.0.101.9033. An Arc B580 reports the same matrix configurations; discrete cards are untested with this release. Arc A-series does not qualify.
  • 64-bit Python 3 from python.org. Setup finds it, and installs NumPy and safetensors into an environment of its own, not into your Python.
  • Your own nvngx_dlssnr.dll, version 310.8.0.0. It is not included, and neither are any weights: setup extracts them from your copy, on your PC.
  • The Microsoft Visual C++ x64 Redistributable, if Windows does not have it yet.

Install

  1. Extract the ZIP into a permanent folder with an ASCII path, for example C:\dlss-nr.
  2. Run NR-Setup.exe. Choose your DLL, the game's .exe and its graphics API — Vulkan, or DirectX 8–11 — and press Install NR.
  3. Start the game the way you usually do: Steam, a shortcut, another launcher. Set an 800×450 window for the first test.
  4. Press Enable NR. The NR controls tab has ten settings that apply while the game runs; the release starts at render scale 0.4.
  5. Remove NR puts the game's folder back as it was.

The setup window speaks English, Russian and Spanish, and has a light and a dark theme.

What works

  • Games with their own Vulkan renderer, and DirectX 8–11 games through DXVK 3.1.1, which setup puts beside the game (zlib licence, in dxvk\). 64-bit and 32-bit games.
  • Setup puts a vulkan-1.dll beside the game that gives it NR whatever starts it; Steam's launch options are not touched.
  • Tested: DOOM (2016, Vulkan), Mortal Kombat 11 (DirectX 11), Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (32-bit DirectX 9), and Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition (32-bit DirectX 9, started outside Steam).

Not yet, and what to expect

  • No DirectX 12.
  • A game with anti-cheat may refuse a DLL beside it, or count it as tampering: test single-player games, offline.
  • NR adds work to every frame, so expect a lower frame rate. The cost follows the game's window size more than the render scale; keep the window small.
  • If the game was already running when you installed NR, restart it.

Reporting

Open an issue; its form asks for what helps. Save report in the setup window writes the checks, versions, settings and the daemon's log, with no DLL and no weights: attach it.
