Merging branches (unexpectedly) switches current branch to "main"

I use the "main" branch for production and do development in a "dev" branch. After I edit and test in "dev", when I merge my changes into "main", the editor changes the current branch to "main". It's easy to forget that happens and inadvertently start editing in "main".
