it wouldnt stay connected for more than 5 seconds and constantly disconnected rendering it useless but... what?

I wonder if the disconnects were unrelated (some other part of the networking stack interfering?) What device/OS was this?

Wow, could it be true that newer Broadcom chipsets are less unfriendly to us? 🤔 I'll have to look into this more.

(yeah I would guess sound is due to the chroot, you'd probably have to do some ALSA routing back to Android)

recording to a dummy output and outputting that to a raw file that i imported it into tenacity and... audio works!

I assume you must have compiled Vanilla from source? The Releases package does not have vanilla-pipe (i.e. the facility to actually make the connection).

i actually did try to build the android version with vanilla-pipe but i couldnt figure out how to fix/was too lazy to fix openssl being broken. perhaps you can look into that. it said something about architecture mismatch, or similar, even though its arm-v8a/arm64/aarch64 compiling for arm-v8a/arm64/aarch64

perhaps i will try using loopback (127.0.0.1) to host vanilla-pipe in the chroot and use the frontend i do have currently

It's tricky on Android because on Android, wpa_supplicant is designed to run as an integrated OS component, not a user-accessible app, and as such it links to various libraries that are only available if you're building the whole OS from scratch (it is possible to provide these libraries manually, but then they're supposedly tied to your specific Android version, so it's hard to provide a "universal" build of any kind).

In some ways, it's simpler to build a dedicated Vanilla "distro" (on top of something like LineageOS), but obviously not everyone is going to want to replace their whole OS just for Vanilla.

i do seem to have mac80211 loaded for some peculiar reason, everywhere i go im told this chipset is fullmac though
