🤖 CG AI Material: GitHub Copilot Agents & MCP

From autocomplete to agent teams and production MCP servers.

Updated VS Code Node MCP

VS Code Agents window

Tip

📖 Read alongside the labs: the Agents & MCP Field Guide explains every concept in this course, with diagrams, analogies and a searchable glossary.

🧭 How to use this wiki

Work through the pages in the order listed below. Every page has ⬅️ Previous / Next ➡️ links at the bottom, and the sidebar shows the same order.

Icon Type What to expect
🧪 Lab Part A is guided step by step. Part B has less‑guided challenges with hints you open only when stuck
📘 Reading Short handout with a quick self‑check
🧗 Challenge Mostly unguided, with hints and a hidden reference solution
🏆 Capstone Combine everything; graded with a rubric
📎 Reference Look things up as needed

Tip

Setup once: VS Code 1.140+, GitHub Copilot with AI credits, Node 24 LTS (≥ 22.19), Git, and a GitHub account. Use one Node version for everything.

🎓 For instructors

🆕 What changed in the October 2026 refresh

  • Billing moved from premium requests to AI credits, and Edit mode is gone. All handouts are updated.
  • Custom agents, skills and hooks match current VS Code (no extra settings needed, real hook schema, correct skill naming rules).
  • MCP labs use the v2 SDK and were tested end to end with the MCP Inspector, in both the legacy (VS Code) and modern (2026‑07‑28) protocol eras.
  • New Module 4 (Advanced MCP): resources and prompts, tool design, elicitation, remote servers with auth and sandboxing, testing in CI, and a capstone.
  • Every lab now ends with less‑guided challenges and hints.
