Test the hability to export exclusively via ESM

After some research the ESM doesn't seem like a viable option for now.

• it requires to add extensions .js on the typescript file (which is weird)
• it can't handle __dirname
• it can't handle .json files without assert, and assert is behind a flag.

After researching across a couple of different libraries done in Typescript it seems like most of them export to CommonJS.

closing this for now. There is currently no elegant solution from Typescript to ESM that doesn't require some sort of compromise on the code. Typescript files importing .js files that are actual .ts files is a bit much to me. We'll revisit this as the spec and transpilers continue to evolve.
