👋 Hey friends,

This one is hard to write.

Vidstack has meant a lot to me over the years. It's where I learnt to code exciting frontend work, how to look after a small community, and what good developer experience really means. I got to build and ship cool things for people. I spent time with my wife building things like our skins, and I had my first son while working on this. It means a lot to me.

If you want the longer story of how we got here, I wrote it up on the Mux blog: 6 years building video players. 9 billion requests. Starting over.

With a heavy heart, I'm saying bye to a piece of my life. But I'm really excited that I can give everyone looking for an amazing video player a better home, and there's no better home than Video.js. It carries significant meaning on the web, it's where it all started, and an incredible team is behind it now.

Thank you to everyone who built with Vidstack, filed issues, sent pull requests, answered questions, and hung out with us along the way. 🙏

🛡️ Security

• Vidstack Player 1.x gets priority security fixes until January 2028, and no other changes.
• Report vulnerabilities privately through private vulnerability reporting, never in a public issue. SECURITY.md has the details.
• Issues and pull requests that aren't about security will be closed. If something still matters to you, bring it over to videojs/v10.
