On Android no real filename returned version 0.13.0 (last)

Instead of normal filename its returned number as a part of URI
Still working fine on version 0.11.0

Hi @derynia, thanks for reporting this!

I took a look, and this seems related to Android Photo Picker filenames. FileKit 0.13.0 already tries to resolve numeric picker names like 18.jpg through MediaStore, but there are still fallback cases depending on what Android returns.

Could you please share:

• the picker type you use (FileKitType.Image, FileKitType.File, etc.)
• the exact value of file.name
• the exact value of file.path
• your Android version / API level

A small reproducible snippet or project would also help a lot 🙏

And I see that extension is lost when I get the file
Version 0.11 returns not a real filename but a numeric representation but at least not looses the extension
But in 0.13 when I get file.name I receive name without extension.
Also file.extension is empty.

I see you already created version 0.14 but I can't test it as my target is SDK 36 and version 14 requires SDK 37 as a taget. So I'll be able to try it next time.

I retried rememberFilePickerLauncher on Android, and when I printed the returned file name, it correctly prints the file name with extension like photopicker-61.jpg or adrian-gomez-fTMdrmm3umM-unsplash.jpg.

In your case, you are probably picking a file that doesn't have an extension. In this case, FileKit is correct by showing you a file.name without any extensions and file.extension empty.

No in version 0.11 extension is returned correctly.
Also is doesn't return real filename. Only number from URI.
In version 0.11 it's also not a real name but a number from URI but with extension.
The problem appears only if I use type = FileKitType.Image so the files are selected from gallery
I have an option to select a pdf file in my app. In this case the name is returned correctly.
I use Pixel emulator running SDK 34

You’re right, for 0.13.0 this can happen with Android Photo Picker. It should be fixed in 0.14.0. Let me know if you still have the issue in FileKit 0.14.0

I tried version 14.
Works mostly as version 11.
11th returned something like 0000000061.jpg
14th returns photopicker-000000061.jpg
As I understand, It's impossible to get a real filename from Android if I use photopicker and the only option is to use FileKitType.File()?
