Removing remnants of old kernel versions after an update

During use, the root partition grows in size after an update. I discovered that this is due to /usr/lib/modules/ and /boot/—remnants of previous kernel versions (initramfs and modules) remain there. We need a mechanism to automatically clean up this clutter.

No this is a feature. This avoids removing modules for currently booted kernels and leaves known working versions so that a regression doesn't make the system unbootable.

Understand what we are talking about. In some distro's after updating kernel the post-install hook automatically check for old kernels and modules that no longer needed. Of course, leaving 2 or 3 known working versions. So, why don't include this option in void? That's a question
