How to add row numbers automatically?

Hello, I see my list of questions goes beyond.

1. How to number rows in ordinary sequence 1,2,3,4 automatically with our the user interaction? This column should appear in the table but not in the form.
2. How to add a drop down on click with these numbers as options and change them as desired?

Hi,
The first question is almost straightforward, if you just have one table on the page without paging.
Add a variable before the jtable,

var lineNo=0;

then add a field definition like

                lineNumber : {
                    title: 'Line No',
                    list: true,
                    create: false,
                    edit: false,
                    display: function () {return ++lineNo}
                },

However if you want paging or sorting then I would opt to generate the line numbers on the server.

I don't understand your second question.

Ok, these row numbers request is about a concert program where the rows are related to a specific songs order in a program. As the artist enters the songs they will be ordered automatically like if it was by the song_ID, however in case they delete one song the order must automatically to be re-built. The second question is about a drop down or an inline edition for this column only in case the artist decides to change the order of the songs sequence. Am I being clear?

I disabled the lagging and the search before I tried your suggestion and I receive an error: Error communicating with the Server.

Is this a server side implementation?

OK as I said at the outset if you want sorting then I'd opt for a server side solution. we are not rally talking line numbers, it's just that on a simple list the play order number happens to look like a line number Surely this is a piece of data that needs to be stored in the database, otherwise the database will recall the songs in any order, typically the created order.

Currently there is no method for jTable inline editing. However the play order number is just a number, so you can just edit it.

My code snippet does not communicate with the server, so you must have implemented it incorrectly. It is not an approach worth perusing for your problem..
