Milestone
Description
It's come up several times over the years, but I think we never actually filed a Process issue on it:
Section 3.3.3.3 https://www.w3.org/policies/process/drafts/#AB-TAG-elections states:
If, after the deadline for nominations, the number of nominees is:
- Greater than or equal to the minimum number of available seats and less than or equal to the maximum number of available seats, those nominees are thereby elected. ...
- Less than the minimum number of available seats, Calls for Nominations are issued until a sufficient number of people have been nominated.
Simplifying this, if there are not enough candidates, we extend the nomination period; but if there are exactly enough, we don't run an election.
It's been suggested that we should extend the nomination period when there are exactly enough candidates, in order to ensure that there is an election. Should we do this, or not?
