Vacancy: Volunteer co-maintainer of GGIR

GGIR has benefited from many contributors over the 12+ years of its existence. However, I currently carry most of the maintenance work on my own. A single maintainer increases the chance for mistakes and makes it harder to safeguard readability of the code.

Therefore, I am looking for one or multiple volunteers to help me maintain GGIR.

What is in it for you?

• Gain experience with maintaining a widely used R package.
• Gain better understanding of GGIR.
• Help improve GGIR to the benefit of the research community.
• Influence the direction GGIR develops in.
• Co-authorship of GGIR.
• (optional) Lead on grant applications.
• (optional) Lead on journal articles or blog posts about GGIR.

Note: I will not pay for your time. GGIR is an open-source project and contributors are responsible for their own incentive to contribute. If you want to be paid for working on GGIR, discuss this with a research group near you that benefits from GGIR in their research.

What I expect from you?

The role can be non-technical, technical, or a combination of both.

Non-technical role

• Help moderate questions in the Discussion page. For example, help encourage clear and reproducible descriptions of problems.
• Review and propose changes to documentation.
• Reflect on how GGIR is seen and recognised by the research community and how this may need to be improved.
• Help monitor the impact of GGIR in the community.
• (optional) Lead on applications for funding.
• (optional) Lead on journal articles or blog posts about GGIR.

Technical role

• Investigate known issues.
• Review existing code and documentation.
• Propose changes to GGIR.

What time commitment is required?

Ideally at least 60 hours per year. Some of you may prefer 5 hours per month, while others may prefer an intensive period of 4 weeks with 15 or more hours per week. I am flexible in that regard.

How much experience is required?

I welcome both inexperienced and experienced maintainers.
The key for me is that you are motivated, have time, and have a critical mindset of your own.
