Looking for good first issue to contribute for GSoC 2026

Hi folks! I'm Srinithi Vijayakumar preparing for GSoC 2026.
I'm looking for some good first issues to contribute PR, gain some experience with the Wagtails codebase and make some meaningful contributions to strengthen my GSoC proposal. But I couldn't find any.
I've tried my best. But I ended up in finding nothing. Could anyone point me to beginner friendly issues or small tasks for my contribution.

👋 please see our GSoC contributor guide. The tasks in there are ordered from introduction/beginner to more advanced, and tailored to help you build up a strong proposal. There’s really no point hunting around for issues until you’ve reached those last few tasks.

Hello Everyone ,I am Kaavya Sundariya
I am starting with my very first contribution and participating GSOC 2026 as a student in 1st year .I am interested and excited to contribute to Wagtail .Please can anybody guide me on what my steps should be to be a part of Wagtail's amazing contributors .I have gone through a lot of videos for it but I am still confused about how should I start and be a valuable contributor to Wagtail.

please see our GSoC contributor guide. The most important right now really is for you to build up an understanding of Wagtail and our GSoC projects, so you can make a good proposal. For some projects, making a contribution or two can help. But that’s just one of many steps. And a step best left towards the end of this phase, when you feel confident in your understanding of the fundamentals.
