RSR 0.9.0 — Release Notes
A performance-focused release. Bigger and busier scenes now render dramatically faster on the same hardware, plus new desktop controls. Special thanks to Reddit user Mage_Enderman for his feedback and providing a great test scene.
Performance
A new rendering pipeline lands a substantial speed-up across the board. On our test scene (5.99M splats, 4K), end-to-end frame rate goes from ~80 FPS to ~143 FPS — a ~1.8× improvement. Higher splat counts and denser scenes benefit the most.
Controls
- WASD / QE fly-cam movement on desktop and in VR. Shift triples speed. Step size scales with orbit distance on desktop, mirrors thumbstick math in VR.
- LMB drag = first-person look. MMB drag continues to orbit the target.
- L key (desktop) freezes the cull frustum so you can fly around and visually inspect what culling is rejecting — a debugging aid that also surfaced two correctness issues fixed in this release.
UI
- Collapsible controls panel with a cheat-sheet covering move, look, scene, and mode bindings. Chevron in the title row rolls it up to just title + filename + splat count.
- Splat Quality dropdown (Low / Medium / High) in both the desktop overlay and the VR companion window. Defaults to High; lower settings trade visual fidelity for more performance.
