I am facing the same!

I dug into this on macOS. A couple of distinct things are going on, so sharing findings in case it helps triage:

1. Wrong microphone being recorded (turned out to be my actual symptom). On the native ScreenCaptureKit backend, selecting a specific mic in-app has no effect — it always records the system default input. The renderer passes the web MediaDevices deviceId (an opaque hash) + label to the native helper, which can't match those to a Core Audio uniqueID/localizedName, so it silently falls back to the default device. In my case the default was a Bluetooth speakerphone in narrowband (HFP/SCO) mode → muffled, low-volume audio that sounds like it could be the echo described here. PR for this: #663 (adds native device enumeration so the chosen mic is actually used).

How to tell if this is your case: if your captured audio is muffled/quiet with almost no high frequencies, check System Settings → Sound → Input — if the default is a Bluetooth headset/speakerphone, that's the culprit, and the in-app mic picker currently won't override it.

2. Genuine echo when recording system audio + mic together. Separately, there's a real double-mix path where the mic baked into the recording gets combined again with the mic sidecar. I have fixes for that too but want to verify them against a real echoing recording before opening a PR.

If your "echo" is specifically with system audio + mic both on, that's #2. If it's mic-only and sounds muffled/quiet, it's likely the device issue in #1.
