Thanks for the report @davexnet, I was not able to reproduce the issue.

Note:

1. Not reproducible on Chrome.
2. Reproducible also on Firefox Preview Nightly regardless if TP is enabled or not.

Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Preview Nightly 200106 (🦎: 73.0a1-20200105094728), Firefox Nightly 68.4a1 (2020-01-03)
Operating System: Huawei P20 Lite (Android 8.0.0) - 1080 x 2280 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~432 ppi density), Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (Android 8.0.0) - Resolution 1440 x 2560 pixels (~534 ppi pixel density)

This is very intermittent. Sometimes, images load, sometimes they don't.

I poked around quite a bit, and I'm a bit baffled. Sometimes, we just fail to display the images. However, that does not only affect the thumbnails, but also the images themselves. I have no idea what is going on here, but there is already a Fenix bug that tracks this.

Let's close this report as a duplicate of mozilla-mobile/fenix#5597.
