`closedby` defaults refer to unspecified “Auto” state

What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

The closedby attribute comes with the following note:

The closedby attribute's invalid value default and missing value default are both the Auto state.

However, the states listed just before this sentence include no “Auto” state, but “Any,” “Close Request,” and “None.” It seems “Auto” refers to the “None” state, but this needs clarification.

(A side note, after going over all missing value defaults, there are more ambiguities. Nothing as unclear as this one, but it may be worth reviewing references to states.)

Would it be clearer if the state was present in the table but we used a hyphen or em dash for the keyword?

Auto refers to one of the other states depending on the mode of the dialog (modal dialogs default to Close Request state, otherwise it defaults to None state).

They're not in the table because they don't have an associated keyword.

Perhaps the table should list all states in which case I think "No Keyword" is the clearest indicator that this isn't a state directly tied to the attribute.

Yes, that would help. The tables give the impression that all states would be listed (and IIRC most do).

Many attributes have states which are not enumerated in the table. The table enumerates the related keyword, as Luke mentions, but the prose below is able to map additional states. Some other examples of this:

• shadowrootmode (which has the None state),
• contenteditable (which has the Inherit state),
• spellcheck (which has the Default state),
• autocapitalize (which has the Default state),
• draggable (which has the Auto state),
• popover (which has the No Popover state),
• crossorigin (which has the None state),
• translate (which has the Inherit state),
• Dir (which has the Undefined state),
• Scope (which has the Auto state),
• button's type (which has the Auto state),

I believe this to be comprehensive, but I may have missed some.

I do agree though, it might be nicer if these were in the table.
