Based on a user request, users of scidCommunity (v5.1.4.26) can now assign their chess board colors by selecting the new color-picker buttons in Options/Preferences/Chessboard (shown with green arrows below).
When you press the button, scidCommunity disappears until you click something on your screen display. Then scidCommunity reappears having assigned the color of the area you clicked to that square. The idea is you can easily replicate board colors you find on-line (like Lichess or chess.com boards).
This feature may not work on Windows (it may assign the wrong color). If that happens, try setting your Display scaling to 100% -- otherwise the cursor coordinates don't line up with what you think you are clicking.
