BgInfo is a lightweight Windows utility from the Sysinternals suite that writes key system details onto the desktop background. Instead of digging through multiple dialogs to identify a machine, you can see the computer name, domain/workgroup, logged-on user, IP addresses, OS version and build, CPU and memory, and free disk space at a glance. It’s particularly useful in labs, server consoles, VDI environments, and remote-support sessions where you jump between many similar systems.
BgInfo works by generating an image and setting it as the current wallpaper, so it doesn’t change the system beyond the background picture. You can choose which fields appear, arrange them in a clean list, and control formatting such as position, alignment, and font size. It can display values from multiple network adapters, and it supports custom text and simple variables—handy for adding asset tags, environment labels (prod/test), rack locations, or help-desk contact information.
