Hi guys! Have any of you been using Desktop Commander Remote?
I recently started using it and found it really useful, especially with ChatGPT, since it lets ChatGPT access and work with my local PC remotely. (and I don't need to exhaust my Codex limit XD)
The only thing I found a bit tedious was keeping the Remote service running.
Obviously, every time I wanted to use it, I would open a terminal, run the command, make sure the device was connected, and occasionally re-authenticate when needed.
I'm lazy 😅, so my first solution was just a script that automatically started the command and opened the authorization flow.
That helped, but after using it for a while I still ran into a few UX annoyances.
Sometimes ChatGPT would tell me that my PC was disconnected, and that was basically how I discovered the service had gone offline. If something went wrong, I would have to go back to the terminal again to check it, restart it, or re-authenticate.
So I thought: why not just put all of this in the Windows system tray?
I ended up making Remote Commander Tray, a small companion app for the official Desktop Commander Remote Device.
It gives me a simple tray icon where I can:
I've been using it on my own PC for a while now, and for me it makes Desktop Commander feel much more like a background service rather than something I have to manually manage.
It's intentionally just a small companion utility - it doesn't replace or reimplement Desktop Commander, and authentication and remote access are still handled by the official Desktop Commander agent.
If you've had the same little annoyances with keeping Desktop Commander Remote running on Windows, feel free to give it a try:

It's open source and still pretty new, so feedback, bug reports, or suggestions are very welcome :)
