6.9 removed the "edit in HTML" feature in the Classic block, would like it restored

Description

My wife is a very long-time user and uses the Classic Block all the time, and utilizes the choice of HTML editing for a few key components of her regular work flow. The update to 6.9 has removed this choice from the triple-dot menu on the block menu. Could you put this back in? The switch to “code editor” in the backend sidebar doesn’t allow the same functionality as having it in the block setup as it was.

She says, “If you want to insert code for anything (like affiliate links) then you need to be able to access the code”. For those who are more comfortable with the classic editing mode, it would make more sense to leave the “Edit in HTML” feature in. It’s still available in blocks, but just got taken out of the classic block.

Hi, I’d like to help with this, but before working on a PR I wanted to confirm a few things:

• Was the removal of “Edit as HTML” from the Classic block’s toolbar an intentional change in 6.9?
• If not, would restoring the option in the Classic block’s block controls be the expected solution?
• If yes, is there any preferred UX direction (e.g., reintroducing it in the block menu vs. exposing an alternate entry point)?

Restoring the previous behavior seems straightforward, but I want to confirm the intended direction from the editor team before proceeding.

I have a client who uses this functionality regularly as well, and it is not replicated by other blocks. Would really like to have this returned.

@ellatrix, the bug is documented here #10837 (comment). We just bundled disabling support for various features for the Classic block in #72812.

We could restore HTML editing in 6.9.1 and explore an alternative solution for #10837.
