Cannot connect drivers station app to Systemcore

We got past the problem of deploying but we cannot get comms with FirstDriverStation app. We have tried Mac and Windows. USB-C and Ethernet. Restarted everything multiple times. We do have the team number set both on the Systemcore and the Driverstation. robot.local works fine. We can ping the Systemcore just fine on 10.TE.AM.20. The live log ascope display works fine.

Just cannot get comms on the Driver Station app.

What are we doing wrong?

10.TE.AM.20 is not an IP I'd expect to get. But just to try, what happens if you put the robot's IP address into the team number setting in the DS. Is 10.TE.AM.20 what shows up on the display on Systemcore?

Also, does anything show up if you click the dropdown next to the team number settings box in the DS? That should show any robots that are found.

Ah. Don't set a static IP like that. Thats a link local address, and will not be able to properly connect. I'd recommend just leaving it at DHCP unless you have a reason to need static. And if you are going to do static, use 10.TE.AM.2 as the robot address.

Thanks. The screenshot was from our setup from last week when we tried some things to get it working. Not a good idea by us. Since we installed the latest OS yesterday, the defaults should be there. We didn't change anything so it looks different now. Unfortunately we didn't screenshot that.

Just for clarification, it really should just work if we do

1. Install the latest OS and DS
2. Set team number on both sides
3. Connect via USB C

right? Because we did do that but it never worked

You actually don't even need to set team numbers. The system works without that, as long as you don't check the box in the DS stating require team number match.

Sometimes when we see this, its because of a weird laptop configuration. What laptop OS are you running?

Interesting. Windows 11. Tried it on Macs also. I know I have MacOS 26. Didn't work there either

Unfortunately, we still cannot connect our drivers station app to the Systemcore.

We were able to get the IP address of the Systemcore to be 10.TE.AM.2. But it didn't help. It was initially 10.23.99.2

We also noticed that when we had the Systemcore connected to our laptop via USB, nothing ever showed up in DeviceManager. We did do the driver install from the Limelight Hardware Manager before checking that.

We have tried many different laptops. USB, Ethernet.

We have done fresh installs and images, just connected via USB, no team number on either side, but it just does not work.

We can get everything to work but actually getting robot comms.

What steps can we take to debug this?

The no usb thing is weird. I wonder if you have a hardware failure that is not allowing the ds service to start.

To have it documented somewhere, we had a season-long issue where we had to statically assign our IPs due to a network adapter issue. We just fixed this by resetting our network adapters (Network & Internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset > Reset now), restarting our laptop, and then running the VividHosting network assistant tool. This issue had persisted from rio to systemcore, but seems to be resolved now.

In this screenshot, we are wirelessly connected to our radio and tethered via USB to the systemcore.

On further inspection, the Systemcore does show up as a NDIS device in Device Manager. I was expecting it to show up under a USB device 🤦‍♀️

So you’re missing 3 can buses. Which image did you flash? If this is an alpha unit, did you flash an alpha image and not a beta image?

I fully disconnected our CAN to try and isolate issues, but can reconnect if needed. I didn't oversee the flash, but will re-do it with the latest alpha image now.

One thing I noticed; the unit we are using does not have port labels. I have been operating under the assumption it is an Alpha unit. In the systemcore testing repo, it notes that units shipped to FTC Alpha testing teams are Beta systemcore units. We are borrowing it from FRC9194, who also have a strong FTC program (which was included on their application). Just to clarify, there's no way they were delivered a Beta unit, correct?

the can buses being down like that are likely why the ds won’t connect. It’s likely not getting far enough into the boot process to start the comms daemon.

I included the logs, but I don't know if there will be anything interesting there. Just for safe keeping :) We are now officially on limelightosr-alpha-11 and green means go!

I will confer with other downloads folders to see if we were inadvertently installing a beta image. I don't have access to those computers atm but will edit this with updates.
