• Redesigned the Android reader with an immersive reading layout, a slim progress bar, and a bottom settings panel.

• Keep the current paragraph in place when changing text size or font. Tap the page margins to open settings, and tap the shaded area or panel handle to return to reading.
• Preserve word translation, bookmarks, chapter contents and reading tools, with keyboard support and mobile safe-area handling.

What's new

• Translate Classical Chinese, in simplified or traditional characters, into modern Chinese. Teaching notes and follow-up questions explain classical meanings, function words and grammar in context.
• Look up a Chinese character by tapping it in the Android reader, or double-tap for its sentence. Multi-character Chinese passages stay out of automatic vocabulary review; long selections are counted by Chinese characters and English words.
• Recognize English and simplified/traditional Chinese screenshots locally. Translation caching now respects context, so a character's meaning can change between passages.
• Article detection and history filtering send only a cleaned URL to the configured model, excluding the page title and body, URL credentials, query strings and fragments.
• Match the translation panel's source-text size to its translation for easier reading.

Lectern now uses a shadcn-inspired visual style across the Android app and browser extension.

• Neutral light and dark themes with consistent semantic colors, borders, rounded corners and subtle shadows.
• Unified buttons, inputs, switches, cards, segmented controls, navigation and dialogs across reading, vocabulary, review, statistics, chat and settings.
• Refined mobile vocabulary search, compact settings switches and equal-height save actions, including 320px screens.
• Matching translation popovers, reader sheets and Android window backgrounds. Interface text uses system sans-serif fonts; long-form reading retains its serif typography.
• Reading remains immersive, with only the unobtrusive 2px progress line at the bottom until tools are requested.

Validation: 1009 client tests and 38 interface tests passed; 24 light/dark page scenarios and additional narrow-screen interactions and translation overlays were checked in Chromium. A production App build with real Chromium IndexedDB also passed resume-reading and profile-reset checks.

This implements the shadcn visual conventions in Lectern's existing TypeScript/WebView interfaces. It does not require a data migration.

v0.3.24

This release fixes eight issues found and reproduced during repeated code review and regression testing.

• Preserve an EPUB chapter's explicit finished/unfinished choice when it is reopened.
• Invalidate queued article captures when device records are cleared; late resource writes cannot recreate cleared content.
• Keep archive downloads bound to their original account and reject stale content after a profile reset.
• Stop abandoned reader initialization before it restores an old scroll position or starts tracking.
• Bind reading sessions, progress and article-text messages to the profile that opened the page, including worker recovery.
• Respect the newest manual completion choice when merging backups and keep unfinished articles out of the review queue.
• Advance local version counters past imported completion choices so subsequent edits take effect immediately; this also repairs profiles restored by earlier versions.
• Report failed clear operations accurately and allow retry instead of displaying a false success message.

Validation: 1009 client tests, 38 interface tests and 24 backend tests passed. The backend checks used isolated PostgreSQL. Real Chromium IndexedDB verification covered book-position restoration, manual unfinished state, the 2px bottom progress strip, and clearing records while another reader page remained open.

No sync protocol or server database migration is required. Native device behavior was not retested on a physical phone.

v0.3.23

Fixes eight issues found in the full-project review:

• Prevent translations that started before clearing local data from writing into the new account; cancel old requests and discard stale review results and model diagnostics.
• Keep unrelated records and healthy archives syncing when one archive has missing or rejected resources. Show the failed archive in sync details and retry it later.
• Preserve book vocabulary review baselines in JSON backups so importing a backup does not grade the same review twice.
• Honor newer schedules in older exports, keep repeated imports stable, and commit imported records and review history atomically.
• Keep non-streaming model timeouts active until the response body has finished downloading.
• Invalidate cached translations after local or synchronized deletion so looking up the word again saves a new record.
• Preserve article and book images that share the same cached resource when deleting a book.
• Check for newer releases even when an older APK is already downloaded, remember the latest offer, and disarm obsolete automatic installations.

Validation: 1,000 client tests, 37 interface tests, and 24 backend tests including isolated PostgreSQL integration passed. A real Chromium IndexedDB check verified that importing a book vocabulary backup twice and reloading preserves the review count and due date.

No sync protocol or database schema migration is required. EPUB text and chapter progress remain device-local. Previously damaged schedules cannot always be reconstructed automatically; keep the original backup when available.

v0.3.22

This release fixes four Android reading and settings issues:

• Books now retain local reading records and reopen at the most recently visited chapter and saved paragraph, including the first and final paragraphs. Unrelated settings writes and sync refreshes no longer clear book progress.
• The global Save button now saves both reading preferences and model configuration, including the API key. Unsaved model changes are tracked, and connection testing is a separate action.
• Previous chapter, Contents and Next chapter controls are available at the end of each chapter without covering the text during reading.
• Disable the WebView's whole-screen focus highlight after margin taps while retaining keyboard focus indicators on individual controls.

Book text and reading records remain local and are excluded from sync and JSON exports. Reading positions already removed by older versions cannot be reconstructed; positions saved after this update are retained normally.

Install lectern-v0.3.22.apk to update Android. The extension ZIP is also attached; Chrome Web Store availability depends on review.

v0.3.21

Android reading now keeps only the article and a faint 2px progress line at the very bottom of the screen.

• Reading tools start hidden and stay hidden when scrolling back or returning to the beginning.
• Tap the margins beside the article to show tools; continuing to scroll or closing the contents panel hides them again without shifting the text.
• Chapter navigation, the exact progress percentage and source details are available inside reading tools.
• Reading-position and completion notices no longer interrupt the article. Word and sentence translation, bookmarks, position restoration and reading records remain available.

Install lectern-v0.3.21.apk to update the Android app. The extension package is also attached; Chrome Web Store availability depends on review.

v0.3.20

Lectern now uses English throughout the browser extension and Android interface, including settings, help, error messages and accessibility labels. Documentation, the privacy page and store screenshots are also in English.

AI translations, explanations, article reviews and vocabulary coaching can still use Chinese. Saved articles, books and personal content retain their original language.
