`version-from-git` not working on autotools build

The --version string reverted to 1.4.3 with past few commits. I checked with a local build and with the MSYS2 artifacts from the last workflow run e1f62eb

It works as intended when building with cmake, tho

My last local build that showed the git commit on --version was c1ef75b

local builds made with MSYS2/MINGW64 (autotools) and Ubuntu on WSL2 (this one with cmake), old setup that has been working for ages.

Okay, found the cause. It turns out, the msys2 automated builds never properly showed the hash.

Apparently, git short hashes have a variable length. They start at 7 characters, but get longer as soon as any short hash is ambiguous. FLACs repository has a lot of commits, so short hashes are 8 characters. However, the automated builds don't check out the whole tree, only the last commit, and in such a checkout short hashes are 7 characters. However, my code expects 8 and fails.
