Release list
XTrace 0.1.8
XTrace 0.1.8
XTrace 0.1.8 adds a Scores page and a new name.
- Scores: grade a project with a skill's rubric. Grading runs Claude Code in the background with your Claude account, inside its sandbox: the project stays read-only and the network is off.
- Add a skill: choose from your installed skills, add one from a public GitHub link, or have Claude make a rubric for a skill.
- Effort card: a new "human + agent" tab shows your time each day and how many agents ran in each 15 minutes.
- The app is now called XTrace. After this update, an app named XTrace Desktop renames itself to XTrace the next time you quit it. It never replaces an existing XTrace app.
- Clearer index status in the sidebar and Settings, and a note when sessions are hidden while XTrace checks which session started them.
- Removed the Typing speed card and the unused Environment report.
Anonymous usage telemetry is unchanged from 0.1.7: on by default, with a notice and a switch in Settings. See the telemetry documentation for this version.
Install
Download XTrace-0.1.8-macos-arm64.dmg, open it and drag XTrace into Applications. Requires an Apple silicon Mac (macOS 14 or later).
Validation status
The app and disk image are signed with XTrace's Developer ID, notarized by Apple and stapled. On a fresh GitHub-hosted macOS 14 arm64 machine, the published files passed:
-
First launch: download, signature, notarization and Gatekeeper checks, the Welcome page and Dashboard, and the new empty database, with synthetic data and telemetry off.
-
Update failure handling with the real updater library.
-
Default telemetry: the notice, saved choices, restart and the environment-off override, with delivery blocked. This did not check delivered event contents.
-
The real 0.1.7 to 0.1.8 update: the signed 0.1.7 app offered 0.1.8, Restart to update replaced it with the exact signed 0.1.8 app and restarted it, and a normal quit then renamed XTrace Desktop to XTrace with identical signed contents. The renamed app opened its Dashboard without repeating Welcome, with its local data and database intact, and no updater copies were left. This used synthetic data with telemetry off.
Synthetic tests do not establish migration of every existing history.
XTrace Desktop 0.1.7
XTrace Desktop 0.1.7
XTrace Desktop 0.1.7 includes anonymous usage telemetry, enabled by default with a notice and controls to turn it off in the notice or Settings. See the telemetry documentation at the signed source for the intended event contents and behavior.
This update also includes six reviewed fixes and maintenance changes:
- Correct parent links and Human input counts for agent launches, and bound transcript detail reads.
- Stop leftover usage-helper processes and keep native validation copies isolated.
- Keep manual pull-request refresh available when no linked pull request is found.
- Correct the documentation for supported transcripts and conversation details.
- Update three development dependencies to patched versions.
- Keep historical work before midnight and retain the most recently active child conversations in capped lists.
Beta limits: some nested Guardian conversations can still appear under their root conversation instead of their immediate parent.
Validation status
The signed app passed first-launch and default-telemetry validation on a fresh hosted macOS 14 arm64 machine. Signed telemetry run checked the notice, saved choices and environment-off override with delivery blocked. That test did not inspect delivered event contents or prove before-first-pixel ordering.
Updater failure handling passed with the real updater library on a fresh hosted macOS 14 arm64 machine (run): a valid install, a corrupted download, a signed-version mismatch, the full 10-minute download timeout, an interrupted download, and a cancelled administrator password prompt during install. Every rejected case left the previous app unchanged and usable. That run is marked failed only because its final test-machine cleanup check could not read the macOS 14 app list format; that check is fixed separately.
The real 0.1.6-to-0.1.7 update and restart passed on a fresh hosted macOS 14 arm64 machine (run): the signed 0.1.6 app offered 0.1.7, Restart to update replaced it with the exact signed 0.1.7 app, and the restarted app opened its Dashboard without repeating Welcome, with its local data and database intact. That test used synthetic data with telemetry disabled. Synthetic tests do not establish migration of every existing history.
XTrace Desktop 0.1.6 — public beta
XTrace Desktop 0.1.6 — public beta
For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer. This beta is the current automatic-update release. Existing users can choose Restart to update after the background download finishes. Download the DMG below and drag XTrace Desktop into Applications.
Changes since 0.1.5
- Preserve host conversation files during Claude usage checks, including real projects whose folder names resemble the usage probe.
- Keep Dashboard keyboard scrolling from being interrupted by pane-size measurements, and keep its date label tied to the displayed report.
- Handle repeated command and hook observations consistently, and report conflicting history as incomplete.
- Verify conversation identities when reporting capture coverage.
- Keep pull-request table headings readable and explain unavailable previous-period model results.
- Update download, setup, feature and privacy instructions.
Testing limits
Some nested Guardian conversations can still appear under their root rather than their immediate parent. Codex and Cursor transcript viewing is unavailable; their indexed metrics remain available. Codex and Cursor indexing requires Python 3.10 or newer on the Mac.
The final signed app passed first launch from Applications on a fresh hosted Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14.8.9, using empty synthetic data. The signed 0.1.5 → 0.1.6 in-app update and restart also passed on a fresh hosted macOS 14.8.9 Mac, with synthetic data retained. Browser-download first Open confirmation and migration of populated user histories were not tested.
Verification
Source: bab5673759993dc8970a846a8e37625def989d2b.
- Source PR checks: 632 browser tests passed without retries, plus 4 gallery and 4 production checks; 1,197 unit tests passed in each browser job.
- macOS 14.8.9 validation: 1,821 native tests passed, 7 opt-in tests ignored, and 10 overlapping conformance cases rerun. Debug and release test-ID apps opened native windows. The checked candidate's complete file tree is identical to the merged release source.
- Final arm64 packages were built from the merged source on macOS 26.5.2. Apple accepted the app and DMG for notarization; signatures and stapled tickets passed verification. The updater archive was made from the final stapled app and signed with version 0.1.6.
Independent artifact review confirmed all four asset hashes, all 79 app/archive entries, bundled resources, updater signatures and disk-image layout. Anonymous public downloads matched all four approved assets byte for byte.
The pinned updater SDK separately verified the signed archive and replaced an unlaunched disposable copy. The complete in-app update and restart has now also passed through the normal public update feed, as described below.
Post-merge CI also passed all 632 browser tests without retries, plus the unit, gallery, production, policy and security checks. The remaining limits are stated above.
Signed first-launch verification
The signed 0.1.6 first-launch run passed on fresh hosted macOS 14.8.9. It verified the public download, Developer ID signatures, notarization and Gatekeeper acceptance, then opened the unchanged app from Applications. Welcome completed, the real Open Dashboard button worked, and the native empty Dashboard loaded. The app exited, all 79 app entries stayed unchanged, and a read-only check confirmed database integrity and zero sessions and records. Test cleanup passed.
This used a curl download and disposable data. It did not test a browser's quarantine confirmation or existing user histories. The complete in-app update and restart check is recorded below.
Signed update and restart verification
The real 0.1.5 → 0.1.6 update passed on fresh hosted macOS 14.8.9. The unchanged signed 0.1.5 app downloaded from the normal public update feed. The test pressed its real Restart to update button, observed the old process exit and a distinct 0.1.6 process start, and verified the native Dashboard without Welcome returning.
All 79 installed app entries matched the approved 0.1.6 package. The synthetic data file was retained, the empty database passed integrity checks with unchanged main-file bytes, and exact process exit and test cleanup passed. This verifies the tested empty-data update path; migration of populated user histories and browser-download first Open confirmation remain untested.

XTrace Desktop 0.1.5 — testing beta
XTrace Desktop 0.1.5 — testing beta
For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. This is an early testing release.
Changes
- Fix Claude Code conversations staying hidden as "checking": a Codex history file the app cannot read (unreadable, malformed, empty, or ending in a half-written line) no longer holds every other conversation. It is skipped, and conversations it may have started show as main conversations.
- Read the Codex /review helper's history as its own, so it no longer blocks the sub-session check. Settings shows how many Codex histories the sub-session search skipped.
- Other Codex history problems (a file that keeps failing to read, a folder that cannot be opened, too many files, or a codex exec run that never reported back) now hide other conversations for only a few minutes, up to about ten. After that they are skipped and named on Settings. The wait can happen again after each app start.
- Load more matching sessions automatically until grouped rows fill the visible Sessions table, including after resizing.
- Widen the Dashboard Started column so full dates and times, including AM or PM, stay visible.
- Treat a pull-request link whose repository GitHub cannot find as not found, so it is no longer counted as a pull request or listed as a failed check.
Limits
Some nested Guardian review conversations may still appear under the root conversation rather than their immediate parent.
The release source passed checks on macOS 14.8.9. The final signed app's launch on a clean macOS 14 Mac, a real updater restart and every real data-file upgrade have not been checked.
Updating
Open XTrace Desktop from Applications. When the signed download is ready, click Restart to update beside the version. If an earlier error remains, click Retry update.
For a fresh install, open the DMG and drag XTrace Desktop into Applications.
XTrace Desktop 0.1.4 — testing beta
XTrace Desktop 0.1.4 — testing beta
For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. This is an early testing release.
Changes
- Add a menu-bar popover with usage limits, recent main conversations, running indicators, and today's agent time, human time and cost.
- Show Sessions, Your input, Agent working time and Sessions with PRs summary tiles across all matching sessions.
- Add Recently active sorting and keep loaded pages when returning from conversation details. Show a sub-session group's actual parent even when it falls outside the loaded results.
- Show recorded response costs in the Sessions activity tooltip. Exclude automatic code-review responses from cost totals while keeping their conversation records, tokens and hours.
- Make duration labels easier to read and reduce repeated Dashboard reads.
- Change the macOS app identifier to restore the menu-bar icon. On first launch, copy data and screen settings from the earlier identifier; keep the original copy intact and explain any copy failure.
Limits
Some nested Guardian review conversations may still appear under the root conversation rather than their immediate parent.
The release source passed checks on macOS 14.8.9. The final signed app's launch on a clean macOS 14 Mac, a real updater restart and every real data-file upgrade have not been checked.

XTrace Desktop 0.1.3 — testing beta
XTrace Desktop 0.1.3 — testing beta
For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. This is an early testing release.
Changes
- Rename Your hours to Human time and make time, money, model and GitHub-check wording consistent across screens. Times follow the Mac's clock preference.
- Improve saved Claude conversation names and keep running indicators working with newer Claude Code versions. Show each conversation's most-used model and start a fork's time at its own first event.
- Exclude GitHub-confirmed non-PR numbers from PR counts and links, allow another check, and stop repeating a request after a user's check fails for that PR.
- Explain startup problems in a native alert with Show in Finder. Check older data files' table, index and trigger definitions before initializing migration fingerprints.
- Reduce repeated Dashboard reads, make the tray's daily agent time agree with the Dashboard, and keep index warnings and usage freshness consistent.
- Clarify the whole days used by Leverage and Human time. Keep longer time values readable in PR activity summaries.
Limits
Some nested Guardian review conversations may still appear under the root conversation rather than their immediate parent. This release keeps those existing links.
The release source passed checks on macOS 14.8.9. The signed app was not launched on macOS 14 as part of these checks. A disposable-copy updater test does not prove a real app restart or every real data-file upgrade.
Updating
Open the installed XTrace Desktop from Applications. When the signed download is ready, click Restart to update beside the version. If an earlier error remains, click Retry update.
For a fresh install, open the DMG and drag XTrace Desktop into Applications.
XTrace Desktop 0.1.2 — testing beta (Apple Silicon)
XTrace Desktop 0.1.2 testing beta adds a human-hours timeline. Safe skipped-conversation IDs and reasons remain available in Settings → Native index.
For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Download the DMG, open it, and drag XTrace Desktop into your Applications folder. Existing public apps also receive the signed update through the app's updater.
Some nested Guardian review conversations may appear under the root conversation rather than their immediate parent. This beta keeps those existing links.
The exact source passed the macOS 14 validation workflow. The final signed app was not launched on macOS 14 during this release check.
XTrace Desktop 0.1.1 — testing beta (Apple Silicon)
XTrace Desktop 0.1.1 — testing beta
This is an early testing build, not a stable release. Apple Silicon Macs only.
Change
Settings → Native index can show skipped conversation IDs and safe explanations
for why they were skipped. The view does not send conversation text or local
file paths anywhere. Reading results does not delete or modify source history.
Limits
The reviewed source passed the macOS 14 Apple Silicon build, test and native
window-startup checks. The signed download was built locally and checked
separately; that exact signed app was not launched on macOS 14. Missing scan
data and unknown live session states can still occur. Pull-request measurements need locally cached
GitHub details and may be unavailable. A successful update is not a guarantee
that every imported count is correct.
Updating
In the earlier updater-enabled beta, click Retry update beside the version.
When the signed download finishes, click Restart to update. The update replaces
the app bundle, not its local data folder or original conversation files.
For a fresh install, open the DMG and drag XTrace Desktop into Applications.
Do not bypass macOS security warnings; report them if they appear.
