Supported Hardware

zany edited this page Oct 21, 2026 · 7 revisions

This page details what PC/VR hardware that Virtual Handheld is compatible with.

System Requirements

These are the minimum and recommended PC system requirements needed to have a good experience playing games on Virtual Handheld.

These requirements can also be found on Virtual Handheld's itch.io and Steam store pages.

Note

While the VH app may run on a machine with lower specs than these, the experience may be very poor.

Running VH a lower-spec machine is not recommended or supported.

Minimum:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 CPU or better, or equivalent
  • Memory: 24 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 8 GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 1 GB available space
  • VR Support: SteamVR, HTC Vive (wands) / Meta (Oculus) Touch / Valve Index / Windows Mixed Reality / HP (Reverb G2) Motion controllers
  • Additional Notes: UNSUPPORTED: Linux (any distro), Android (standalone), OpenXR, Vive Cosmos controllers, Vive Hub on Android-based HTC Vive headsets, Steam Frame (standalone or streaming)
Recommended:
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • Memory: 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 12 GB VRAM

VR Hardware

A SteamVR compatible VR headset and controllers are required. Standalone VR headsets require a PCVR connection.

[Reserved] inputs are saved for VR system functions, such as toggling the dashboard menus.

Important

Controllers for HTC VIVE Cosmos and android-based VIVE headsets (XR Elite, Focus Vision) connected via VIVE Hub are currently unsupported due to software limitations.

Note

Other VR controller types, such as PSVR2 Sense Controllers may work via remapping.

Gamepads

Virtual Handheld supports a Physical Input mode that allows you to use a real gamepad instead of a virtual one to play non-VR games.

If you haven't connected a virtual gamepad yet (see Bindings menu) then you can enable Physical Input mode by pressing any button on a supported gamepad.

You can toggle the handheld overlay by pressing (Select) + (Start) or equivalents for your gamepad.

Note

Physical gamepad support is limited to the visual handheld overlay. Virtual inputs are not available in this mode. Settings are not gamepad accessible.

Supported Physical Gamepads

  • Xbox Controllers (via XInput)

  • PlayStation Controllers (DualShock)

  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers*

*Anything that identifies as a Switch Pro Controller internally should work. Joy-Cons are not supported.
