ZeroClassic v5.1.6
Summary
ZeroClassic v5.1.6 is a mandatory network update for all node operators, miners, pools, and wallet service providers.
This release resolves a consensus transition issue that occurred after the activation of the protocol upgrade at block 2,430,000. It restores full network compatibility with the canonical blockchain while preserving the intended consensus rules for all future blocks.
Fixes
Consensus compatibility
- Added targeted, documented consensus exceptions for the historical block range:
- 2,435,013 → 2,435,309
- These exceptions allow nodes to follow the canonical blockchain accepted by the majority of the network during the protocol transition.
- Consensus rules remain fully enforced outside of this historical window.
Burn mechanism
- Fixed wallet shielding logic so that coinbase shielding automatically includes the mandatory burn output introduced by the protocol upgrade.
- Updated miner validation to properly handle the mandatory burn requirement.
Network protection
- Added protection against an incompatible third-party client ("Aikawarazu") that propagated an invalid chain during the transition period.
- Nodes running v5.1.6 will automatically reject this incompatible chain.
Version
- Version bumped from v5.1.4 to v5.1.6.
Technical Notes
At block 2,430,000, ZeroClassic activated several consensus changes, including:
- Progressive block subsidy reduction.
- Mandatory shielding of coinbase rewards before spending.
- Mandatory burn output for eligible transactions.
During the network transition, not all miners and wallet software upgraded simultaneously.
As a result, several blocks mined between 2,435,013 and 2,435,309 technically violated one or more of the newly activated consensus rules. Despite these inconsistencies, these blocks were accepted by the majority of upgraded network participants and became part of the canonical blockchain.
Nodes enforcing every new rule without exception could become isolated from the main network.
Version 5.1.6 introduces narrowly scoped, well-documented consensus exceptions for this historical block interval only. These exceptions exist solely to maintain compatibility with the canonical chain produced during the transition and do not weaken consensus validation for future blocks.
Additionally, the mandatory burn mechanism is now fully integrated into wallet shielding operations and mining validation, ensuring complete compliance with the post-upgrade consensus rules going forward.
Mandatory Upgrade
This update is REQUIRED for:
- Full node operators
- Miners
- Mining pools
- Exchanges
- Wallet service providers
Running an older version may result in your node following an incompatible chain or failing to remain synchronized with the network.
