Spatiad Vision & Roadmap — Let's Shape the Future Together

We have reached MVP — Spatiad ships a working, single-process spatial dispatch engine with H3 matching, WebSocket sessions, webhook delivery, rate limiting, and a TypeScript SDK.

Now it is time to decide where we go next. We have published a ROADMAP.md that lays out six phases. Here is the summary:

Phase 1 — Durability & Recovery

Today Spatiad is fully in-memory. A restart means lost state. Phase 1 introduces:

• Pluggable storage backend (SQLite for embedded, PostgreSQL for networked)
• Write-ahead log (WAL) for crash recovery
• Persistent event store replacing the capped in-memory timeline
• Snapshot & compaction to keep recovery time bounded

Phase 2 — Intelligent Matching

Move from "nearest available driver" to "best available driver":

• ETA-based matching via OSRM/Valhalla integration
• Multi-factor scoring (distance + ETA + driver rating + workload)
• Batch dispatch for simultaneous job optimization
• Geofencing & zones (service areas, surge zones, restricted regions)

Phase 3 — Horizontal Scaling

Run Spatiad as a cluster:

• H3 cell partitioning — shard the spatial index across nodes
• Message broker (NATS/Redis Streams) for inter-node events
• Consistent hashing with rebalancing on node join/leave
• Stateless API tier separated from dispatch workers

Phase 4 — Operational Maturity

• Prometheus /metrics endpoint
• OpenTelemetry distributed tracing
• Admin dashboard with live map
• Immutable audit log

Phase 5 — Multi-Tenancy

• Tenant-scoped API keys and namespaced data
• Per-tenant resource quotas
• Tenant-aware routing

Phase 6 — Ecosystem & Extensibility

• DispatchStrategy trait + WASM plugin host
• Python, Go, Java SDKs
• Fleet simulator for load testing
• OpenAPI spec for code generation
