Minutes

Subproject updates:

Training subgroup

  • The training subgroup is currently working on new topics for the Zeek training that will occur as part of Zeek Week 2022.
    • The new topics will include how to configure a Zeek cluster.
    • There also will be a bigger focus on how to run Zeek in production.
    • Furthermore, the training will include additional frameworks that were previously not covered; current plans are the input & logging framework, and the new supervisor framework.
  • The LT briefly discussed the idea of having a future training titled “How to use Zeek for incident response”, which would focus more on data evaluation.

Testing:

  • The testing group is still testing the current 5.0 release, to make sure that there are no lingering issues.
  • We noticed that there were a few small bugs filed right after the 5.0 release. This shows that we do not yet have enough people that test our release candidates to find issues on more uncommon configurations.
  • For these reasons, the Zeek testing subgroup is still looking for members. If you can test a new Zeek release in parallel to your installation, please let us know. Having a large number of sites that test new releases is essential for us to be able to find problems and regressions before a release. For details, see https://github.com/zeek/zeek/wiki/Testing-Group.

Zeek Week:

  • The LT discussed the current state of Zeek Week organization during the meeting.
  • Zeek Week registration is now open!
  • The Zeek Week Call for Presentations was updated and now no longer has a separation of user vs developer track. Please submit any proposals here – we are looking forward to hearing from you
  • The Zeek Week keynote speakers will be announced soon.
