Jelly5 0.7.0
Jelly5 0.7.0 brings the changes currently on main since 0.6.1.
- HDR video reaches an HDR10 TV as HDR10, with clean glass overlays. (#49)
- Set the playback read-ahead buffer from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. (#54)
- Show library rows on Home as portrait posters if you prefer. (#48)
- Choose a title's media version in Options or when you press Play. (#55)
- Navigate and use media keys with the PlayStation Media Remote. (#12)
- Sign in with a server address without a scheme: Jelly5 tries HTTPS and HTTP. (#61)
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept.
Jelly5 0.6.1
Two fixes.
- Sound in sync after a seek: skipping far ahead in a long film could leave the sound behind the picture until the video was reopened. Fixed.
- Subtitles follow your server's setting: with subtitles set to Always but no preferred language (or an external subtitle file without a language), subtitles started off. Jelly5 now starts on the subtitle your server picks for you, as the server's own apps do.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept.
Jelly5 0.6.0
Live TV, Dolby Vision 5 played directly, upscaling, subtitles that sync themselves, and playback that survives a dropped connection.
New
- Live TV: your server's channels in a programme guide (now and next, a day picker, filters for favourites, films, sport, news, kids and series), Live now on the home screen, L1/R1 to change channel while watching, a channel list (△), and recordings where your server records.
- Upscaling (optional, Settings → Playback → Upscaling): video below your TV's resolution is sharpened with FSR 1 (Sharp) or an AI network made for animation (AI). Off by default; it steps down by itself if the GPU can't keep up.
- Subtitles: Sync automatically in the player's subtitle settings: Jelly5 listens to the film's dialogue (only the audio is fetched from the server) and moves the subtitles to match, including a 25 → 23.976 fps mismatch on external files.
- Skip, ask or nothing for each kind of segment (intro, credits, recap, preview, commercial), with marks on the seek bar.
- Your tracks follow the series: change the audio or subtitles in one episode and the next ones start on the same.
- Scrolling titles: a title that's cut off scrolls when it has focus.
- △ types a space in search.
Better picture
- Dolby Vision profile 5 plays directly, rebuilt on the PS5's GPU from its metadata (from EVO Player), instead of being transcoded by the server.
- HDR on an SDR TV: highlights no longer turn pink or cyan.
- H.264 in 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 goes to the server instead of a black screen.
More robust
- A dropped connection during direct play is picked up where it broke, without stopping the film.
- A hardware decoder that stops answering no longer freezes the app: playback carries on in software.
- Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai subtitles show their characters instead of boxes.
- More memory for 4K (1 GB), and the controller no longer keeps vibrating while a video opens.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.5.0
Every PS5 language, a much faster start, "Are you still watching?", and a full review that fixed over a hundred bugs and security issues.
New
- 25 languages: Jelly5 now speaks every language the PS5 has, following your system language or Settings → Language. Counts, dates and language names follow each language's own rules, and Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Arabic text uses the right fonts.
- Are you still watching? After three episodes in a row (or two hours) with no button pressed, Jelly5 pauses and asks before playing the next one. Off by default: turn it on in Settings → Playback.
- The next-episode card comes up when the credits start, not in the last seconds.
Faster
- The home screen shows instantly at start (from the last session), the tabs are ready before you open them, and artwork is fetched ahead as you browse.
Fixed
- Security:
- A crafted picture or Dolby Vision file could crash the app, or worse.
- Subtitle, image, network and discovery input is now bounded.
- Seerr's session stays with its own address.
- Stability:
- A theme song and a film can no longer collide.
- Long films no longer run the graphics memory out.
- Account and settings files survive a crash.
- Fewer freezes when the server is slow.
- Playback:
- The right next episode every time.
- Resume points kept through reconnects.
- Subtitles kept when switching versions.
- Music Next and Previous follow the queue.
- Dolby Vision 7.6 and DV + HDR10+ play directly instead of being transcoded.
- WMA, MKA, AIFF and DSF music play directly.
- Watch together (SyncPlay) now follows Jellyfin's protocol closely, so devices stay in step through seeks, pauses and buffering.
- Skip intro shows when it's focused, and is focused when it appears.
- Play on PS5 from your phone: Play next and Add to queue no longer interrupt what's playing.
- The theme song stops when you leave its page.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.4.0
Emby support, AV1, Dolby and DTS to your receiver, and a sign-in that never leaves you stuck.
New
- Emby: Jelly5 now plays from Emby servers as well as Jellyfin, with the same screens. Jellyfin and Emby accounts sit side by side on Who's watching?. On Emby you get sign-in with a password, browsing, music, playback and transcoding, scrub previews, Skip intro/credits (from Emby's chapter markers), remote control and Seerr. Quick Connect, Watch together and lyrics are Jellyfin-only.
- AV1: AV1 films play directly on the PS5, decoded by dav1d, up to 4K 10-bit HDR. Before, the server had to transcode them. On the PS5, 4K 10-bit at 24 fps decodes in a few milliseconds per frame with nothing dropped. 4K AV1 above 30 fps is still transcoded by the server until it has been measured.
- HDMI bitstream: turn on Settings → HDMI bitstream to send Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus (with Atmos) and DTS to your TV or receiver untouched, so it decodes them itself. Only formats your TV/receiver says it supports are sent; everything else is decoded on the PS5 as before. TrueHD and DTS-HD MA keep playing as lossless PCM. Off by default. Thanks to SlopFin for finding how the PS5 does this!
Improved
- Connecting: if your server doesn't answer, Jelly5 says so within about 10 seconds instead of half a minute, and "○ Switch user or server" shows after 2 seconds so you can always get out. If your server is on your home network and its address changed (a new IP from the router), Jelly5 finds it again by itself.
- Seeking in a transcode (when the server converts the film) lands where you aimed, also in the first 10 seconds, and waits for a slow server instead of giving up.
- Maximum quality is kept per server.
- Profile pictures: a user without one shows their initial on glass, and the sign-in page has no more noise around the focused user.
- Direct play authorises the way newer Jellyfin servers expect (
ApiKey).
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.3.0 remote test (#12)
Test build for #12 (PlayStation Media Remote). Not a release. If you're not helping with that issue, use the latest release.
It is 0.3.0 plus:
- the remote is also read from your user's special pad port
- remote samples with the system's "intercepted" bit are used while Jelly5 has the screen (as PS5-SDL does)
- play/pause, rewind/fast forward and menu keys from PS5-SDL's remote key table
- every remote sample is written to
/download0/jelly5/remote-log.txt(raw pad bytes only)
Install it like an update. Source: branch issue-12-media-remote.
Jelly5 0.3.0
Requests through Seerr, several servers, TV remote control and a new launch screen.
New
- Seerr requests (optional): turn on Seerr in Settings to discover titles and request films or series, season by season, straight from Jelly5. It signs in by itself with Quick Connect, approved through your Jellyfin account, and follows Seerr's own rules for quotas, approval and 4K. Thanks to @viviandsx for the Jelly5-Seerr fork this grew out of!
- Several servers: Who's watching? shows your Jellyfin servers as pills above the users. + Server adds another one (servers on your network are listed), Add adds another user on the server you're looking at, and ←→ on the pills switches between them. No more signing out to change address. Seerr is set per server. If a server gets a new address, signing in once there moves all its users along. Thanks @flunuxx for the idea (#5)!
- TV remote: navigate Jelly5 with your TV's remote over HDMI Device Link (HDMI-CEC). Thanks @cancanoo1103!
- Launch screen: a sharp, calm backdrop drawn at full 4K (also on the PS5's home screen), and a thin line while it connects instead of pulsing dots. It now says which server it's connecting to.
Improved
- Sign-in: more room, with errors shown under the buttons. Every server found on the network and every user is listed (before, only the first 3 servers and 8 users), and the rows slide when there are many.
- Library: no jump at the end of the grid while the next page loads.
- Search headings use each language's own quotation marks.
- Builds on Linux too (thanks @viviandsx).
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.2.1
Fixes for long season lists, playback speed and music, and soft edges on scrolling lists.
New
- Stop music: press □ on Now playing to stop the music. The mini player goes away with it.
- Soft scroll edges: lists that scroll fade out at an edge where more lies beyond (episodes and chapters in the player, the season bar and column, the music queue).
Fixed
- Shows with many seasons: the season bar on the series page scrolls and keeps the selected season in view, and no longer covers the Options hint. The player's Episodes sheet scrolls its seasons too, and its lists no longer run into the hints at the bottom. Same for Chapters and Audio and subtitles. Thanks for the report!
- Playback speed: a new speed is heard at once, the picture keeps up without stutter, and going back to 1× is smooth.
- Music seeking: seeking in a song no longer leaves a loader spinning, and seeking in FLAC files no longer fails.
- Changing tracks: the screen no longer goes dark between songs.
- Adaptive triggers: the resistance stiffens as you press, and holding L2/R2 scrubs smoothly from a few seconds to five minutes per second. Music no longer gets trigger resistance.
- Glass: no more coloured streaks along the edges of large panels (the music queue), and the focus on Shuffle / Repeat is clearly visible.
- More accounts or SyncPlay groups than fit on screen now scroll.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.2.0
New features for movies, music and the controller.
New
- Playback speed from 0.75× to 2×, with the pitch kept.
- Night mode (Settings): evens out loud and quiet scenes and lifts the dialogue.
- Theme music: a film's or series' theme song plays quietly on its page. On by default, off in Settings.
- Music queue on Now playing (△): see what plays next, jump to a track, shuffle, and repeat all or one.
- Adaptive triggers: L2/R2 scrub against a resistance that stiffens as you press, faster the harder you press: a couple of seconds per second with a light touch, up to five minutes per second pressed home.
- Check for updates (Settings, off by default): once a launch, Jelly5 asks GitHub for the latest release and tells you when there's a newer one. It's the only request Jelly5 makes outside your Jellyfin server, and only when turned on.
Fixed
- The launch hands over smoothly from the PS5's launch screen to the app.
- Softer shadows: no dark halos under cast pictures, covers and sheets.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
Jelly5 0.1.1
A small update with fixes and more languages.
New
- Five more languages: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese (Brazil) and Italian, alongside English and Norwegian. Jelly5 follows the PS5's system language, or pick one under Settings -> Language.
Fixed
- The focus ring on the profile picker (Who's watching?) and the sign-in screen no longer has a dark halo, and its highlight follows the circle at the top.
- The detail page no longer shifts its buttons when it finishes loading: Play is there from the start.
- The glass highlight now follows the shape exactly on every glass element.
Update: close Jelly5 with the PS button, then upload the new PPSA99505 folder's files over the old ones in /data/homebrew/PPSA99505/ (with ps5upload or FTP). Your accounts and settings are kept. Full guide in the README.
