FM4 v0.3.9 - Native PC Port (Windows x64)

Changes since v0.3.8

  • Switched to the Vulkan renderer.
  • Added Low, Medium, High and Custom graphics presets:
    • Low: 1x rendering, 4x anisotropic filtering, FSR.
    • Medium: 2x rendering, 8x anisotropic filtering, FSR.
    • High: 2x rendering, 16x anisotropic filtering, bilinear output.
  • Kept the guest video resolution at 720p while allowing independent render scaling and output scaling.
  • Simplified preset descriptions: only the selected preset's settings appear below it.
  • Added an anisotropic filtering dropdown and a VSync toggle.
  • Updated render-scale labels: 1x 720p, 2x 1440p, 3x 4K and 4x 5K.
  • Corrected the separate host presentation limit that kept the 120 FPS mode capped at 60 FPS.
  • Replaced the showroom camera's fixed time step with elapsed time to prevent accelerated car presentations at 120 FPS.
  • Added explicit fullscreen and presentation cleanup on exit to address desktop HDR dimming.
  • Ported Vulkan depth-bias handling from Xenia Canary.
  • Removed the legacy patch that disabled exterior shadow maps and disabled three FH1-specific rendering shortcuts while investigating under-car artifacts.
  • Added Automatic, Stereo and 5.1 PCM audio output selection.
  • Added automatic Forza Plus 120 FPS physics-profile switching, with restoration of the previous profile when returning to 60 FPS.

Forza Motorsport 4 native PC port — v0.3.8

60 FPS is strongly recommended. The experimental 120 FPS mode causes visual artifacts. Keep the game set to 60 FPS for the recommended experience.

Included in the Windows x64 ZIP

  • Native FM4 executable, runtime libraries and recompiled auxiliary modules.
  • English/Spanish launcher with integrated instructions, two-disc installation, verification, offline profiles, graphics and controller settings.
  • Experimental steering wheel input and native force feedback, guided steering/pedal calibration, paddle mappings and optional clutch input. A MOZA R3 has been tested; other wheelbases still need validation.
  • Optional Project Forza Plus 4 installation, original/mod switching and removal with save preservation. Mod archives must be supplied separately.
  • Disc/content utility, read-only wheel probe, default configuration, setup documentation and SHA-256 checksums.
  • Current runtime module reload fix and updated disc/content utility from the local build.

Setup

  1. Download FM4-v0.3.8-windows-x64.zip and extract it into a short path such as C:\Games\FM4.
  2. Install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64) if needed. A Direct3D 12-capable GPU and Windows x64 are required.
  3. Run fm4-launcher.exe, open Instructions, and install your supported Disc 1 and Disc 2 ISOs through Install.
  4. Choose a profile, configure your controls, keep 60 FPS selected, and press Play.

Supported game: Forza Motorsport 4 (USA), Rev 1, Title ID 4D530910, Media ID 33E7B39F, XEX version 0.0.0.14. See the README for exact ISO hashes.

When updating, close the game and launcher before replacing files. Preserve your settings, game folders, profiles and saves.

Known limitations

This is a work in progress. 120 FPS causes visual artifacts and timing, physics, animation and audio behavior at 120 Hz remain experimental. Full Career progression, all game modes, long sessions and every wheelbase have not been validated. Shader compilation may cause first-time stalls. The current race-shadow workaround skips exterior shadow maps while retaining cockpit shadows. Profiles are offline; Xbox Live functionality is not provided.

Game files, disc images, DLC, Project Forza Plus archives, saves and personal settings are not included. Supply your own supported game discs and mod files.

Validation

All 8 automated regression checks passed, covering launcher compatibility, wheel calibration/input/FFB/runtime/haptic/UI behavior and mod install/uninstall. These checks do not certify complete gameplay compatibility or physical force feedback on every device.
