  • Other S3 release targets remain Nightly-only. Do not install Sticky firmware on another S3 board.

Reading and reliability

  • Add Bluetooth page-turner support and improve connection handling across chapter builds.
  • Bound reader memory use on devices without PSRAM and release reading statistics and font lists before network downloads.
  • Consolidate WeRead downloads and improve imported book covers, touch controls, and button interactions.
  • Improve standby power handling, UI font behavior, and font preload confirmation; reduce built-in font flash usage.
  • Extend About information and correct SD capacity reporting.

Firmware assets

  • firmware.bin and firmware-cn.bin remain identical multilingual X3/X4 images for existing clients.
  • Sticky uses sticky-firmware.bin, sticky-bootloader.bin, sticky-partitions.bin, and sticky-boot_app0.bin; use the guided web flasher for installation.
  • Both targets include manifests and SHA-256 checksum files. Normal OTA updates preserve books and reading data. The Sticky web installer rewrites the boot region and app0 while preserving NVS; its existing backup and device-confirmation flow still applies.

CrossMux 1.5.8 unifies the X3/X4 firmware across all supported languages, adds automatic Chinese UI font installation and system-settings reset, and improves WeRead touch behavior and reader reliability.

Firmware and setup

  • Ship one multilingual X3/X4 image. The first-start language choice selects the regional content profile without changing the firmware binary.
  • Automatically install the Simplified Chinese UI font when it is needed and available from the configured content region.
  • Add a system-settings reset that preserves books and reading data.

Reading and reliability

  • Improve WeRead touch gestures, progress handling, annotation filtering, and cache behavior.
  • Improve wake refreshes, sleep-screen handling, reader performance, and recovery under constrained memory.
  • Update FreeInk SDK device support while retaining the X3/X4 board and OTA safety checks.

Release scope

  • Stable 1.5.8 supports Xteink X3 and X4 with one shared ESP32-C3 image.
  • Sticky, X4 Pro, Paper Mono, EEGO A4, Murphy M4, and Waveshare ePaper 3.97 remain available through Nightly only.
  • Existing books, reading progress, settings, and downloaded content are preserved during a normal OTA update.

Firmware assets

  • firmware.bin and firmware-cn.bin contain the same multilingual firmware for compatibility with existing clients.
  • bootloader.bin and partitions.bin remain available for guided web/USB recovery flows.

CrossMux 1.5.7

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Aug 15:21
567d16f

CrossMux 1.5.7 syncs upstream reader and interface changes while improving WeRead progress sync, OTA low-memory recovery, AirPage updates, and sleep-screen handling.

Reader and interface

  • Adopt upstream FreeInkUI lists and tabs plus the unified reader architecture through develop commit eef20504, while preserving CrossMux themes, apps, Chinese firmware, and release behavior.
  • Add extra-wide line spacing, improve EPUB image and dark-mode rendering, support StarDict synonyms and HTML definitions, and speed up CJK text and list rendering.
  • Add build support for X4 Pro and PaperMono. These devices are not included in stable release assets or OTA selection.

Sync and reliability

  • Keep valid WeRead sessions, use native chapter coordinates for more accurate progress sync when available, and retain visible-text and book-fraction fallbacks for older cached books.
  • Avoid splitting UTF-8 text while generating WeRead anchors without changing cookies, completed EPUBs, pagination caches, or the existing progress file format.
  • Release dynamic lists and render caches before OTA TLS handshakes, stop automatic SNTP from competing for network heap, and improve OTA note pagination and the Wi-Fi scan header.
  • Keep the current AirPage image visible during updates, restore transparent sleep overlays and the INX file-list font size, and retain opaque white pixels in sleep images.

Upgrade notes

  • Existing books, reading progress, settings, and downloaded WeRead EPUBs are preserved.
  • EPUB book cache version remains 11. Section caches advance to version 56 for international builds and 57 for Chinese builds, causing a one-time pagination cache rebuild.
  • TXT page indexes remain version 7. WeRead cookie and progress file formats remain unchanged, and older cached books keep their compatibility fallbacks.

WeRead security notice: WeRead uses an unofficial Web protocol that may change without notice. Device traffic is encrypted with wolfSSL, but the current client does not verify the server CA or host identity. Use WeRead only on a trusted network.

Firmware assets

  • firmware.bin — international firmware
  • firmware-cn.bin — Simplified Chinese firmware
  • bootloader.bin and partitions.bin — complete web/USB flashing support

Full Changelog: 1.5.6...1.5.7

CrossMux 1.5.6

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 16 Aug 15:40

CrossMux 1.5.6 adds reading backgrounds and guide lines, an online dictionary manager and file editing, and makes WeRead, Inx navigation, and low-memory reading more reliable.

Reader and customization

  • Add configurable reading guide lines, custom PNG reading backgrounds, and PNG image viewing.
  • Add custom EPUB auto-turn intervals, keep the reader awake while auto-turning, refine paragraph typography defaults, and add compact TXT paragraph formatting.
  • Add an online dictionary manager and file-browser actions for renaming, moving, and deleting files.

WeRead and interface

  • Complete WeRead touch navigation, promote locally opened shelf books, and speed up large shelves by loading visible covers on demand.
  • Load Inx covers progressively, speed up tab switching, expand About device details, and improve settings button navigation.
  • Add transparent sleep-screen overlays while preserving opaque white pixels in source images.

Reliability

  • Make allocation failures recoverable, harden ZIP and cache deserialization, reuse framebuffer scratch, and prevent EPUB layout, footnote, and reading-stat crashes under low memory.
  • Stabilize resumable font downloads, guard against cross-chip firmware installation, and harden credential storage.
  • Incorporate upstream fixes through develop commit 596f0d3f, including new X3 display support and lower X3 battery drain.

Upgrade notes

  • Existing books, reading progress, settings, and downloaded WeRead EPUBs are preserved.
  • EPUB book cache version remains 11. Section caches advance to version 54 for international builds and 55 for Chinese builds, causing a one-time pagination cache rebuild.
  • TXT page indexes advance to version 7. Versions 4 through 6 remain reusable while extra paragraph spacing is enabled.
  • WeRead now versions its derived caches. An incompatible cache clears shelf and per-book derived data while preserving the session, accepted disclaimer, completed EPUBs, and normal reader progress.

Full Changelog: 1.5.5...1.5.6

CrossMux 1.5.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 08 Aug 16:02

CrossMux 1.5.5 introduces the touch-friendly Inx interface, adds Calculator and Electronic Woodfish, and makes WeRead and web file management faster and more reliable.

Interface and apps

  • Add the Inx theme with main-tab navigation, touch support, and selectable layouts for recent books, the library, and apps. Fresh installs use Inx by default; existing saved theme choices are preserved.
  • Add Calculator and Electronic Woodfish, including a recoverable on-SD counter for Woodfish.
  • Add an About page showing the firmware version, device model, heap, and SD-card usage.
  • Surface file transfer and configured OPDS libraries in Apps, and refine Inx action buttons.

WeRead and performance

  • Make shelf navigation consistent, prefetch only the first ten covers, cache later pages on demand, and offer full cover caching when refreshing the shelf.
  • Speed up WeRead downloads by removing the shard delay and batching XHTML and image-index writes.
  • Restore two-em paragraph indentation and correctly detect metadata for large TXT content.
  • Speed up post-OTA SD-font prewarming and trim the Chinese 14pt built-in font to the UI-required glyph set.

Reliability

  • Bound compressed file-manager responses and batch file-list JSON streaming for large directories.
  • Incorporate upstream reader fixes through develop commit ba1b849f, including sequential Settings page data loading.

Upgrade notes

  • Existing books, reading progress, and saved theme choices are preserved.
  • EPUB book and section cache versions remain unchanged at 11 and 50/51, so no pagination cache rebuild is required.
  • Electronic Woodfish creates /.crosspoint/woodfish.bin only after use.

WeRead security notice: WeRead uses an unofficial Web protocol that may change without notice. Device traffic is encrypted with wolfSSL, but the current client does not verify the server CA or host identity. Use WeRead only on a trusted network.
