Release list
v0.4.0
Babel 0.4.0 adds multimodal provider routing, fair-use budget controls, and a redesigned dashboard.
Highlights
- Route Babel Lens directly through image-capable providers and use Cloud Vision OCR for text-only provider legs.
- Share prompt, glossary, cache, fallback, and accounting behavior between text and image translation.
- Add UTC monthly budgets with configurable rolling 5-hour and 7-day fair-use limits.
- Isolate Guild and Pocket budget pools, reserve worst-case provider spend, and persist settled costs.
- Redesign dashboard navigation, Settings, provider selection, diagnostics, and bottom-pinned save actions.
- Tighten OCR region filtering, marker normalization, and truncated-response handling.
Upgrade
Back up babel.sqlite before deployment. Existing SQLite data migrates automatically at startup. Review the new fair-use limit defaults in Settings and Access after upgrade. No Discord command re-registration is required when upgrading from v0.3.0.
v0.3.0
Babel Lens adds private image translation for both Babel Guild and Babel Pocket.
Highlights
- OCR Discord PNG, JPEG, and WebP attachments with Google Cloud Vision.
- Return translated JPEGs with numbered source and translation regions.
- Control monthly Vision usage globally and per Guild server or Pocket user.
- Use dedicated OCR caching, bounded rendering, and localized Lens guidance in all 16 /help languages.
- Preserve existing global Vision usage during the scoped-quota migration.
Upgrade
Re-register the Discord commands after deployment so Babel Lens appears in Apps. Combined deployments must register both Guild and Pocket commands. Configure the Cloud Vision key and monthly image limit in Settings, then enable Lens for selected Guild servers in Access. Direct Linux installs need Noto Core and CJK fonts; the Docker image already includes them.
See CHANGELOG.md and README.md for details.
v0.2.3
Highlights
- Retired the Cloudflare Worker/D1 runtime so Babel now ships one Node.js Gateway and SQLite deployment path.
- Hardened provider prompt roles, atomic budget reservations, deterministic retries, fallback diagnostics, and readiness checks.
- Improved Discord delivery with Unicode-safe splitting, thread-aware webhook reuse, serialized creation, and safer public webhook handling.
- Made dashboard configuration, login, Setup Doctor, usage exports, and glossary imports more reliable.
- Enforced glossary key uniqueness, fixed container maintenance and IPv4 health checks, and refreshed vulnerable transitive dependencies.
Validation
- 417 tests on Node.js 22 and 24
- Coverage thresholds, type checks, lint, production dependency audit, builds, and dashboard smoke tests
- Docker image build and GitHub Pages deployment
v0.2.2
Highlights
- Added the Cloudflare Workers runtime with signed Discord HTTP interactions, static dashboard assets, and D1-backed state.
- Added SQLite-to-D1 migration tooling and Cloudflare deployment documentation.
- Added Setup Doctor diagnostics, Pocket budget views, 30-day CSV usage export, and guild-scoped language preferences.
- Hardened dashboard scoping, configuration validation, metrics authentication, provider HTTP errors, and retry classification.
Validation
- 490 tests on Node.js 22 and 24
- Coverage thresholds, type checks, lint, audit, dashboard builds, and smoke tests
- Cloudflare Worker dry-run bundle and Docker image build
- GitHub Pages and Railway deployment checks
v0.2.1
Highlights
- Added multilingual server glossary support and CSV/TSV glossary import workflows.
- Scoped combined dashboard logs and usage history by active app profile.
- Added optional metrics token authentication and safer dashboard error handling.
- Fixed Pocket history scope bypass and escaped stored glossary fields in dashboard rendering.
- Pinned undici via npm override to satisfy the high-severity audit gate.
Validation
- PR #13 checks passed: ci (22), docker, Railway.
- Local verification: npm audit --audit-level=high, npm test, npm run typecheck, npm run lint, npm run build.
Babel v0.2.0 — Guild + Pocket combined deployment
Highlights
- Added
BABEL_APP=combinedfor running Babel Guild and Babel Pocket in one Node.js process with one SQLite database. - Added clean combined dashboard routing:
/opens a product chooser,/guildmanages Babel Guild, and/pocketmanages Babel Pocket. - Added scoped dashboard APIs under
/guild/api/*and/pocket/api/*while keeping root/api/*compatibility. - Updated Railway, Docker, VPS, and deployment docs for combined mode, profile-specific Discord tokens, persistent volumes, and low-cost shared-fate hosting.
- Added health-only dashboard mode and Docker memory tuning for constrained hosts.
- Improved runtime performance with in-flight provider call deduplication, cached runtime config reads, prepared SQLite statement reuse, faster daily usage paths, and tighter Discord.js cache bounds.
- Improved provider resilience by persisting circuit breaker state and avoiding extra exhausted-retry requests.
- Updated the read-only Guild and Pocket dashboard demos for the new combined-compatible frontend assets.
Upgrade Notes
- Existing single-product deployments can keep using
BABEL_APP=guildorBABEL_APP=pocket. - To run both products in one service, set
BABEL_APP=combinedand configureBABEL_GUILD_DISCORD_TOKENplusBABEL_POCKET_DISCORD_TOKEN. - In combined mode, use
/guildand/pocketfor product-specific dashboard management.
