Release list
FolderHue 1.0.0
Right-click a folder, pick a colour. Pick five folders first and all five take it
at once. FolderHue is a native shell extension — nothing runs when you are not
using it.
Install
Download FolderHue-Setup-1.0.0.exe below and run it. No administrator rights
are needed; it installs for your user account only and restarts File Explorer at
the end, which is what makes the menu entry appear.
Windows will warn you. The installer is not code-signed, so SmartScreen
shows "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
You can verify the download first — see below.
On Windows 11, look under "Show more options" (or press Shift+F10).
Windows 11 reserves its short context menu for Store-distributed apps. On
Windows 10 the entry appears directly.
What's in it
- 12 colours plus Original color, derived from your Windows folder icon
so a coloured folder still looks like a folder on your machine - 6 status emblems — important, in progress, done, locked, favorite —
independent of the colour - Multiple selection, applied in one operation
- Reset color, which removes what FolderHue added and nothing else

Requirements and limits
Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11. x64 only — Explorer cannot
load an x64 in-process extension on an ARM64 machine. The .NET runtime is
bundled, which is why the installer is 49 MB.
The icon is stored in your user profile and referenced by an absolute path, so a
folder moved to another machine, a network share or a USB stick goes back to its
default icon. Colouring also adds a hidden desktop.ini to the folder; Git and
OneDrive may report it.
Uninstalling removes the program and leaves your folders as they are. The
uninstaller offers a checkbox — off by default — to restore every original icon.
