STEVE 0.8.1 — Long chats, reliable jobs and working links

  • Long conversations: removes the 200-entry send cutoff. Tool-heavy chats and paused jobs can continue in the same conversation after switching or saving documents.
  • Responsive transcript: the panel displays a rolling window of 200 entries. Show earlier messages pages backward; Back to latest returns to the live conversation. Saved history and model context are preserved; this display window does not replace the runtime’s context compaction.
  • Paused jobs: Resume recovers when the runtime is idle. Pause is hidden for paused jobs; an unfinished response explains the wait. Status refresh cannot interrupt active Fusion tools or overwrite a newer turn.
  • Working links: fixes the missing import that prevented reply links from opening the system browser. Non-web URLs remain blocked.
  • Tool-call race: prevents a late turn-start response from replacing a newer automatic turn ID and incorrectly rejecting valid tools as inactive. Cancelled and genuinely stale requests remain blocked.

These fixes work in existing chats. If upgrading from before 0.8.0, start a new chat for the gallery lookup tools and screenshot isolation introduced in that version.

Use Settings → Updates → Update & restart STEVE once the download is ready and work is idle. Fusion stays open.

STEVE 0.8.0 — Shared image gallery and clearer updates

  • What’s new: a small notice after updating opens these version highlights inside STEVE. Dismiss it once; reopen them anytime from Settings → Updates. Notes work offline.
  • Close-up captures of small parts keep the camera outside the assembly instead of placing it inside surrounding geometry. In Design, STEVE can request isolate: true to hide other bodies/components for the screenshot and restore visibility afterward. Faces and edges isolate their owning body; occurrence targets retain their subtree's existing visibility. Isolated views do not verify assembly fit.
  • Image gallery: open the image icon in the top bar to import, search, rename, attach and manage shared references. Existing cached images appear with access off; turn on Available to STEVE for cross-conversation lookup. Migration preserves chat history, deduplicates images and never enables them automatically. Removing a gallery entry preserves cached pixels used by chats. Start a new chat after updating to give STEVE the gallery lookup tools; manual Attach works in older chats.
  • Update controls explain when a task, job, sign-in or Codex download blocks installation. Confirmation and progress explicitly announce the STEVE restart while Fusion stays open.
  • Design guidance defaults to functional parts: establish interfaces, build and measure each part, visually inspect and correct it, then verify the assembly. Basic checks apply with DFM off. This guides model behavior; live design verification remains necessary.
  • The maintainer confirmed the Windows 0.7.0 → 0.7.1 in-Fusion update works.

STEVE 0.7.1 — Cleaner top bar

  • Removed the Early Access badge from the top bar.
  • Published a patch release for live verification of the in-Fusion updater introduced in 0.7.0.

Update from 0.7.0 without closing Fusion

In an installed, managed copy of STEVE 0.7.0, open Settings → Updates → Check for updates. Wait for 0.7.1 to download, then choose Update & restart STEVE and confirm when idle. Fusion should stay open while STEVE restarts. Verify that Settings shows 0.7.1, the top-bar badge is gone, and your document and conversation remain available.

This release provides the package for that live test; it does not claim the test has already passed. Source checkouts must be updated manually. Versions through 0.6.2 require the packaged installer once before in-Fusion updates are available.

STEVE 0.7.0 — Redesigned panel, Dream, providers and in-Fusion updates

  • Readable replies: replies now render tables, links, nested and task lists, and fenced code with syntax highlighting, a language label and Copy. Links open in your browser.

  • Fusion steps fold away: each run of Python steps is one activity block ("Ran 4 steps in Fusion · 1 failed") that stays open while STEVE works and collapses when the reply arrives. Expand a step to read its script or the exception it raised. The transcript no longer fills with code.

  • One status line: the footer names what STEVE is doing and which tool it is using. The pinned document, the current job and DFM show as chips above the message box instead of separate banners.

  • Simpler navigation: the gear opens a short Settings list — AI provider, Manufacturing (DFM and RMFG), Updates, Diagnostics — where each row shows its current state and opens its own page. The + button beside the message box holds Attach images, Dream and jobs. The header is shorter and the welcome screen fits the docked panel.

  • STEVE Dream (experimental): generate concept images through ChatGPT's Codex connection, refine them in chat, reuse them as visual references, and save originals to Downloads. Concepts persist in chat history and are available to image lookup tools. Image generation consumes Codex limits and is currently enabled only for ChatGPT.

  • In-Fusion updates: managed installations download updates automatically. Choose Update & restart STEVE to apply when idle, with rollback if startup fails. Users upgrading from 0.6.2 must use the old installer once to receive this updater.

  • Ollama servers: configure a host, port, URL path/query and optional API key for a shared or private Ollama server.

  • OpenRouter: choose OpenRouter (experimental) and Sign in with OpenRouter. OpenRouter creates a key labeled STEVE in your account; STEVE stores it in the macOS Keychain or Windows' per-user encryption. Usage is paid from your OpenRouter credits.

  • Model choice: models with tool calling and at least 64K context appear grouped by company, with each model's effort levels. Most popular is the default.

  • Limits: web search is unavailable for OpenRouter, and text-only models cannot receive images. Tool-calling quality varies by model. Live OpenRouter sign-in and inference still need verification; see verification status.

Install or upgrade to 0.7.0

Download the complete platform ZIP from STEVE Releases: STEVE-0.7.0-windows-x64.zip or STEVE-0.7.0-macos-arm64.zip. Extract it, close Fusion, and run the included installer. This one-time manual installation gives 0.6.2 users the new in-Fusion updater. Chats and preferences are retained.

Dream and the redesigned panel passed automated browser checks. Live image generation and refinement succeeded with Codex; native Fusion appearance and live macOS verification remain user checks. See verification status for provider and updater limits.

STEVE 0.6.2 — RMFG checkout and simpler settings

This update brings sheet-metal checks, quotes and cart preparation into the conversation, and makes STEVE's settings easier to find.

Changes

  • Simpler menus: click the STEVE logo for Design for manufacturing, Updates, Diagnostics and Restart STEVE. The person icon holds AI provider and RMFG connections.
  • Automatic RMFG checks: with DFM enabled and RMFG connected, STEVE uploads the scoped part snapshot without a separate upload button. It reuses established material and thickness requirements, checks supplier findings, and rechecks changed geometry.
  • Quotes and checkout: ask STEVE to quote quantities of one or more checked parts and prepare a cart. The new rmfg_checkout tool validates snapshots, materials and quantities, then shows Open checkout. Review delivery and final pricing and pay on RMFG; STEVE does not submit payments.
  • Remembered RMFG connection: startup restores the saved connection and refreshes expired access tokens. Connect reuses an existing login. Older DFM-only connections have a separate Enable quotes & checkout action for the additional permissions.
  • Additional DFM evidence: live Fusion fixtures cover multiple cavities and independent openings, with no changes to inspected bodies.

Start a new chat with + after updating to use the new cart tool. Existing chats retain their original tool definitions and remain available in history.

Validation and scope

Connection persistence, token refresh, automatic upload, quote/cart validation, retry handling, stale snapshots and menu interactions have automated coverage. Windows and macOS CI build, install and verify complete packages before publication. New-chat cart-tool availability has been confirmed in local Windows Fusion.

Quote/cart behavior is tested against controlled responses and RMFG's current API contract; a live supplier checkout has not been completed. DFM remains experimental. RMFG export supports one solid body per leaf component; multiple separately checked parts can share a cart. Material/process qualification, slicer validation and live macOS DFM remain open.

See machine definitions, evaluation evidence, and remaining qualification.

Update or install

Open Settings (⚙) → Updates → Check for updates, then choose Update STEVE. Save your work and quit Fusion when prompted. Chats and preferences are retained.

  • Windows x64: extract STEVE-0.6.2-windows-x64.zip and run Install STEVE.exe.
  • macOS (Apple silicon): extract STEVE-0.6.2-macos-arm64.zip and run Install STEVE.command through Terminal (bash followed by dragging the file into the window).

STEVE 0.6.1 — DFM machine checks and catalog update

This patch improves the experimental DFM introduced in 0.6.0. The existing DFM switch and conversational workflow stay the same.

Changes

  • Consistent report validity: a check now revalidates every machine definition referenced by the part's ordered manufacturing plan. Changes to another stage's definition make findings stale; missing or invalid definitions leave them unverified. Measured values and original limits are retained without rerunning generated code. Unrelated catalog changes do not invalidate the report.
  • Resin and polymer SLS machines: separate sourced files add Formlabs Form 4 and Fuse 1+ 30W nominal envelopes alongside MK4S and original CORE One. The Fuse definition records rounded chamber corners and material/settings-dependent usable-volume restrictions. No machine is selected automatically.
  • More live evidence: a paired model test verifies machine discovery and orientation-dependent comparisons. Both DFM modes reached the same correct dimensional conclusions; this is integration evidence, not proof of improved design quality.

Validation and scope

The combined changes passed live Windows Fusion checks for 24 machine/orientation cases and three machine-definition currency cases. Every inspected body revision remained unchanged. The local release branch ran 383 Python tests with 11 skips and no failures; focused DFM/catalog, chat, attachment and portability checks also passed. Windows and macOS CI run the complete Python suite, package installation and runtime checks before publication.

DFM remains experimental. Nominal XYZ comparisons do not prove printable placement, support success, drainage, powder removal, strength or manufacturability. Material/process qualification, slicer validation, live macOS DFM and a real authorized RMFG supplier report remain open.

STEVE 0.6.0 — Experimental DFM and machine definitions

Turn DFM on in STEVE's menu and describe how each part will be made. STEVE can retain ordered manufacturing stages, inspect actual Fusion geometry and report measured concerns, unsupported checks and unknowns. DFM starts off and can be disabled between tasks without losing plans.

What's new

  • Process-aware checks: milling/drilling, turning, sheet metal, FDM, resin and powder guidance, loaded when needed. Native helpers inspect supported radii, cylinder bands, selected face distances, sampled walls, build envelopes, planar overhangs, sealed cavities and existing sheet-metal bend lines.
  • One definition file per machine: sourced capabilities are selected per process stage and bound by a content hash. The initial MK4S and original CORE One definitions cover nominal build envelopes. Missing capabilities remain unknown; changed definitions invalidate old checks instead of silently changing their limits.
  • Reports tied to current evidence: geometry, ordered plans and selected machine definitions are checked for changes. Reports distinguish measured concerns, unknown coverage and evidence-backed exclusions; successful Python execution alone is not a manufacturing pass.
  • Optional RMFG sheet-metal workflow: connect a supplier account and explicitly approve each selected-part STEP upload. Jobs retain snapshot identity and retry receipts; no orders, payments or automatic risk acceptance. Live supplier authorization/report qualification is still pending.
  • Clearer tools and documentation: concise calling contracts, Python context loaded on demand, improved installed-API helper compatibility and current Autodesk reference candidates.

Validation and scope

Live Windows Fusion fixtures exercised native and SAT-imported geometry, selected distances and assembly frames, counterbores/intersecting holes/open pockets, bent sheet and additive envelope/wall/cavity checks. The same rotated plate correctly exceeded the selected MK4S envelope while fitting the selected CORE One envelope. Inspection preserved body revisions; setup was confined to disposable fixtures.

The merged main checkout passed 381 Python tests (11 skipped), panel/image checks and a real browser streaming check. Scripted provider integration exercised DFM on/off/on through the actual Codex runtime with Claude, Grok and Ollama adapters. Windows and macOS release packages must also pass CI build, runtime and fixture-install verification before publication.

DFM remains experimental. These are scoped measurements and comparisons, not a certified manufacturing rule library or a guarantee of machining/printing success. Slicer outcomes, physical process qualification, complete machine profiles, live macOS DFM and an authorized RMFG supplier report remain unverified. Recorded paired model tasks succeeded with DFM both off and on; they do not establish better generated geometry yet.

See DFM scope, machine definitions, and validation status.

Update or install

Existing users can choose Check for updates, then Update STEVE. Save your work and quit Fusion when prompted. Chats and preferences are retained. Start a new chat after updating to load the revised tool definitions; existing chats keep their registered definitions.

  • Windows x64: download STEVE-0.6.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the complete ZIP, close Fusion and run Install STEVE.exe.
  • macOS (Apple silicon): download STEVE-0.6.0-macos-arm64.zip, extract it, quit Fusion and run Install STEVE.command through Terminal (bash followed by dragging the file into the window).

Both ZIPs include the runtime, installer and installation guide, with accompanying SHA-256 checksums. GitHub's Source code archives omit the runtime and installer. These are unsigned previews. Codex updates independently of STEVE.

STEVE 0.5.0 — Better Fusion inspection and verification

STEVE now has richer document context, explicit verification results, searchable Fusion documentation for every provider, and focused viewport captures.

What changed

  • Preserve work while waiting. Pending tools explain which document or Fusion command they are waiting for. Waits do not expire or cancel Fusion commands. Native-call time no longer consumes the Python loop budget.
  • Inspect Electronics selection mode. The verified schematic GROUP state permits inspection and queries without interrupting selection. Editing operations remain gated and return actionable guidance.
  • Read richer document summaries. Bounded Design, CAM, and Electronics summaries report useful state, missing capabilities, and incomplete collection coverage. Electronics design editing remains limited by the installed API.
  • Separate execution from verification. Measured checks and limited feature-health comparisons distinguish code completion from verified outcomes. Missing evidence and failed checks are reported explicitly.
  • Find Fusion documentation with any provider. Search installed API classes and official samples, inspect installed signatures, and fetch Autodesk API reference pages through dedicated tools.
  • Use consistent Python helpers. Helpers resolve pinned selections and entity tokens, validate unit expressions, and page through collections without dumping entire documents or libraries.
  • Capture useful views. Named views and selected-entity close-ups restore the original camera after capture, including failures. Images supplement API measurements.
  • Allow slower Windows image-paste startup. The background clipboard helper now has a bounded 30-second deadline to accommodate slower PowerShell/.NET startup; it does not block Fusion's UI thread.

This release also includes the previously merged in-app STEVE update flow and the renamed Jobs controls. Use /jobs to manage ongoing work.

Verification

Automated checks cover the new behavior with simulated Autodesk hosts, provider/runtime fixtures, and platform package tests. The maintainer reported selection measurement and close-up capture working inside Fusion on Windows. Some native Fusion workflows still need itemized live confirmation, including retesting the schematic GROUP inspection fix. See verification status and reliability validation.

DFM is planned separately and is not included in this release.

Update or install

Existing users can choose Check for updates, then Update STEVE. Save your work and quit Fusion when prompted so the installer can replace the add-in. Saved chats and preferences are retained. Download only is also available.

  • Windows x64: download STEVE-0.5.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the whole ZIP, close Fusion, then run Install STEVE.exe.
  • macOS (Apple silicon): download STEVE-0.5.0-macos-arm64.zip, extract it, quit Fusion, then run Install STEVE.command through Terminal (type bash , drag the file in, press Return) or allow it under System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Each ZIP includes the conversation runtime, installer, and installation guide. GitHub's Source code downloads do not include the runtime or installer. These are unsigned previews; both platform packages must pass automated build and installation verification before publication. SHA-256 checksums accompany the ZIPs. Codex updates independently of STEVE.

STEVE 0.4.0 — Claude subscriptions and independent Codex updates

Use your Claude subscription in Autodesk Fusion through the official Claude Code client. Select Claude (experimental) alongside ChatGPT, Grok / X, and local Ollama.

What changed

  • Update Codex independently. The account menu shows the running Codex version, checks OpenAI's latest stable release, and downloads verified updates without waiting for a STEVE release. Downloads run alongside your current task; click Restart STEVE in the account menu to activate the update and reopen your chat without restarting Fusion. The bundled runtime remains available for recovery.

  • Refresh OpenAI models. Refresh the ChatGPT model catalog without resetting your conversation. The packaged Codex baseline is now 0.155.1; newer compatible stable versions can be installed independently.

  • Use your existing Claude sign-in. Install Claude Code and run claude auth login in a terminal outside Fusion. STEVE detects the account automatically and provides installation and sign-in guidance when needed. Credentials stay with Claude Code.

  • See model versions and effort choices. The picker shows resolved names such as Opus 5.5 and Haiku 4.5, preserves context and usage-credit labels, and exposes supported reasoning levels.

  • Refresh after Claude updates. The account menu shows the installed Claude Code version. Check connection refreshes that version and the model catalog without resetting your chat.

  • Keep STEVE's tools and conversations. Claude supports Fusion tool calls, streaming, images, steering, saved history, and native goal controls through the existing conversation engine. Signed replay data is isolated by chat.

  • Handle failures clearly. Interrupted or incomplete responses do not dispatch unfinished tool batches. Claude errors reach the chat, and cancellation stops the owned process. The adapter prevents additional upstream generations within a single model request.

Claude support is experimental. Web search is not connected for this provider; Fusion's installed API documentation remains available. Claude Code is installed separately. Anthropic controls model access, subscription limits, and any usage-credit or extra-usage charges. No API key or separate STEVE account is required.

Live Haiku and Sonnet checks completed tool rounds against a simulated document. Automated checks cover the protocol, images, steering, history, goals, and cancellation. Native Fusion workflows and macOS Claude usage still need live confirmation; see verification status.

Update or install

  • Windows x64: download STEVE-0.4.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the whole ZIP, close Fusion, then run Install STEVE.exe.
  • macOS (Apple silicon): download STEVE-0.4.0-macos-arm64.zip, extract it, quit Fusion, then run Install STEVE.command through Terminal (type bash , drag the file in, press Return) or allow it under System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Existing STEVE users can use Check for updates once this release is published. The installer preserves saved chats and preferences. Each ZIP includes the conversation runtime, installer, and installation guide. GitHub's Source code downloads do not include the runtime or installer.

These are unsigned previews. Both platform packages must pass automated build and installation verification before publication. Each package's SHA-256 checksum is included as a separate release asset.

STEVE 0.3.0 — Grok / X and local Ollama

Choose ChatGPT, Grok / X, or local Ollama to work with STEVE inside Autodesk Fusion. This release adds provider selection while preserving existing ChatGPT conversations and settings.

What changed

  • Meet STEVE. Updated name, S logo, toolbar, installers, and release packages. Existing managed installations and saved data transfer to the new folders with backups.

  • Manage long-running goals. /goal <objective>, /goal, /goal edit, /goal pause, /goal resume, and /goal clear use Codex's native goal lifecycle. The ◎ control shows status, token usage, optional budgets, and editing controls. Stop pauses the goal, automatic turns retain the Fusion target, and saved goals stay paused until explicitly resumed.

  • See STEVE's Python. Compact, expandable cards show submitted Fusion scripts and their running, waiting, or completion state without replacing the code pane as replies stream. Scripts appear when submitted, rather than token by token.

  • Sign in with X / Grok. Select Grok / X on the sign-in card or in the account menu and approve access in your browser. STEVE completes sign-in automatically; there is no need to copy the code the browser may show for Grok Build. A separate device-code flow is also available.

  • Choose Grok models and effort. Available models, supported reasoning levels, and defaults come from xAI's live catalog. STEVE remembers your selected model and effort per model.

  • Use STEVE's Fusion tools with Grok. The integration supports Python operations, design queries, image inputs, streaming, steering, and saved chat image lookup through the bundled runtime.

  • Keep provider settings separate. Each provider has its own sign-in, conversation history, and preferences. Switching is disabled during a task or sign-in.

  • Run a local model with Ollama. No sign-in is required. STEVE discovers downloaded models with tool support, checks their actual context allocation, and supports images when the model has vision. Local setup guidance includes a small Gemma configuration for modest GPUs. Web search is unavailable with this provider.

xAI determines account eligibility and access. No API key or separate STEVE account is required. Browser sign-in is user-confirmed on Windows, and automated checks cover the runtime/tool loop, resumed conversations, and effort forwarding. Live Grok modeling and macOS sign-in still need verification; see verification status.

Update or install

  • Windows x64: download STEVE-0.3.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the whole ZIP, close Fusion, then run Install STEVE.exe.
  • macOS (Apple silicon): download STEVE-0.3.0-macos-arm64.zip, extract it, quit Fusion, then run Install STEVE.command through Terminal (type bash , drag the file in, press Return) or allow it under System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Download this transition release manually: older installations cannot discover it after the repository rename. The installer replaces the previous managed add-in folder with STEVE. On first run, STEVE transfers sign-ins, chat history, goals, preferences, and cached images into its new data folder, retaining a backup. Future updates appear in STEVE's account menu.

Each ZIP includes the Codex runtime, installer, and installation guide. GitHub's Source code downloads do not include the runtime or installer. STEVE downloads updates on request and does not replace files while Fusion is running.

These are unsigned previews. Both platform packages must pass automated build and installation verification before publication. Each package's SHA-256 checksum is included as a separate release asset.
