@1460197441-web 1460197441-web released this 21 Oct 11:05

Ocean NetCDF figures from the command line

First public release of ocean-plot, an MIT-licensed Python CLI built on xarray and Matplotlib, with optional Cartopy maps.

  • Inspect NetCDF coordinates and variables
  • Plot SST maps and geographic wind vectors with a reference arrow
  • Export nearest-grid-point temperature time series and CSV
  • Save 300-dpi PNG/PDF; run an offline synthetic demo
  • Explicit time/depth selection, validated units, preserved missing values, and rejection of unsupported dateline discontinuities

Install from this release

python -m pip install "ocean-plot[netcdf4,maps] @ https://github.com/1460197441-web/ocean-plot/releases/download/v0.1.0/ocean_plot-0.1.0-py3-none-any.whl"
ocean-plot demo --output-dir demo

Python 3.10+. Not yet published on PyPI; the wheel below is ready to install. Natural Earth map data downloads on first Cartopy use; the synthetic demo works offline.

Validation and scope

42 tests pass; CI is green on Python 3.10, 3.12 and 3.13. Smoke-tested with local OISST and CCMP subsets. Supports 1D rectilinear geographic coordinates; curvilinear, rotated and staggered grids and non-standard-calendar time series are not supported. Absent timestamps are not inferred or filled.
