SkyPlot 0.4.2 — initial beta release

SkyPlot is a Python visualization package for CMB and astrophysical sky maps. It renders HEALPix data and WCS-backed 2D arrays with Matplotlib and Cartopy.

Key capabilities:

  • Inputs: 1D HEALPix arrays, 2D arrays with an Astropy WCS, and ndmap-like objects with .wcs.
  • Projections: Mollweide, Orthographic, Plate Carrée, Equidistant Conic, and local Gnomonic.
  • Coordinate support: configurable source/display frame transforms and explicit WCS longitude/latitude world-axis mapping, including WCS objects with additional non-spatial axes.
  • Rendering: configurable low/medium/high sampling presets, colormaps, normalization, invalid-value color, gridlines, titles, colorbars, and multiple export formats.
  • Overlays: binary mask layers and streamplot/quiver vector fields, designed for separate magnitude-map and vector-overlay calls.
  • Layer control: default map/vector/mask z-orders of 1/2/3, with explicit zorder overrides.
  • Polarization: documentation includes HEALPix/COSMO Stokes-Q/U orientation handling and notes the IAU-sign convention difference.
