Objective Functions

Each algorithm (except the EFT-Greedy) will generate a solution based on the selected objective. Currently there are five different objectives that can be scheduled to. A short description of each one can be seen at the bottom.

  • Priority
  • Satellite Fairness
  • Station Fairness
  • Scheduled Duration
  • Scheduled Contacts

Each objective is a value between 0 and 1 with 1 being the optimum solution. It is possible to select multiple objectives and with different weights. This can be done with the Objective Builder under the Menu->Options->ObjectiveBuilder.

The objective Builder allows the creation of custom objective functions by selecting the ones wanted and adding them. This can be done multiple times for each one increasing their influence over others. These can be saved and then used for each Schedule. It is also possible to change the Name of the objective to save by typing in a new name in the selection box at the top.

Priority

Maximizes the number of higher contacts over lower ones.

Satellite Fairness

Schedules the number of satellite contacts to be equal so that each satellite is being scheduled as often as every other.

Station Fairness

Similar to the Satellite fairness but this will lead to a schedule where every stations is used equally and no station is oversubscribed.

Scheduled Duration

Maximizes the overall scheduled contacts duration. This will prefer longer contacts over shorter ones maximizing the overall duration of all contacts.

Scheduled Contacts

Maximum number of overall contacts. With this the schedulers will try to achieve as much contacts as possible thus not creating very fair solutions but with very little contacts.
