ExPDF is a lightweight PDF reader that connects to your local Codex CLI and existing subscription for AI-powered reading.
Read, annotate and discuss PDFs in one focused macOS app. Reuse your existing ChatGPT sign-in and eligible Codex subscription access without entering a separate API key in ExPDF.

- Multiple PDF tabs, recent documents, search, thumbnails, bookmarks and restored reading positions.
- Highlighting, underlines, strikethroughs, sticky notes, freehand drawing and text annotations with local fonts.
- Native PDF saving and Save As, including Chinese annotations.
- A resizable Codex assistant with independent conversations, model and reasoning controls, Markdown, LaTeX and code rendering.
- PDF context and tool execution through your installed Codex CLI, with interactive approval requests where needed. Desktop control is disabled.
Download and setup
- Download ExPDF-1.0.0-arm64.dmg for Apple silicon, macOS 13 or later.
- Open the disk image and drag ExPDF to Applications.
- To use AI features, install the Codex CLI and sign in with
codex login.
The current build is ad hoc signed and is not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. PDF reading and annotation run locally; AI requests use the model service configured in Codex. Available models, tools and usage limits depend on your account and local Codex configuration.
