OmaShow 0.2.0
OmaShow 0.2.0 is the first packaged release: download one file, install it with pacman, and everything OmaShow needs comes with it, including the typefaces it draws PowerPoint decks with and a British English dictionary.
Install
Download omashow-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst from this release, then:
sudo pacman -U ~/Downloads/omashow-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zstOr from a terminal in one go:
curl -LO https://github.com/28allday/omashow/releases/download/v0.2.0/omashow-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
sudo pacman -U ./omashow-0.2.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zstThe package is unsigned, so download it first and install the local file. SHA256SUMS is included for checking the download. Installing from source still works as the README describes; a source install picks up the same dependencies.
What's new since 0.1.0
PowerPoint and Keynote
- PowerPoint decks open and save. Slides, layouts, masters, text with its formatting, pictures, shapes, tables, charts, notes and comments come across; saving writes a
.pptxPowerPoint opens. - Keynote decks open (read-only).
- Office fonts drawn with measured free matches. A deck written in Calibri, Cambria, Georgia, Arial and the other Office typefaces is drawn with a free typeface set to the same measured width, so lines break where they did, and the Office font is restored when the deck is saved back to PowerPoint. The package carries the typefaces this needs. Thanks @JesusLovesYou1013 (#18).
- The deck format is now 25, for the fields the font swap remembers. Older builds say so rather than refusing the deck as unsupported.
Editing
- A colour chooser on every swatch. Clicking a colour box opens a chooser: a grid of ten colours in eight shades plus greys, or a wheel with a brightness slider, with the hex code shown and editable. It is on every colour setting: text, fill, outline, shadow, gradients, connectors, picture tint, chart series, table cells, slide and master backgrounds and the theme colours. Thanks @JesusLovesYou1013 (#22, #20).
- Bold, Italic and Underline toggles in the Text inspector (#11).
- Font sizes in points, and a typed size is committed as typed (#7).
- Only the weights a font actually has are offered (#10).
- Arrow, hand and resize cursors on the canvas (#13).
- Panel edges follow the pointer when dragged (#9).
- The Animate room's slide-builds button is "Play Slide", told apart from the toolbar's Play (#16).
- Nine slide transitions (cover, uncover, fade through black, zoom and whirl are new) and transitions chosen by name on the command line.
Speed
- Moving and resizing is more than twice as quick. Two panels that were not even showing rebuilt themselves on every step of a drag (#21).
- An edit no longer reruns the review pass or reloads every slide thumbnail; only the slide that changed is redrawn (#6).
- Large photos are averaged down to the size they are shown at instead of being sampled, so they no longer look grainy on the slide (#5).
Fixes
- The recovery prompt closes after Discard or Recover (#8).
- OmaShow builds on Qt 6.4, so Ubuntu 24.04 LTS can build it from source (#3).
Command line
omashow importbrings a PowerPoint or Keynote deck in;omashow export --kind pptxwrites one.- Text and picture choices are taken by name, master fields are shown, and placeholder arguments are labelled.
The full suite passes: 256 functional cases, the two-display routing check, the frame-rendering harness, and the packaged binary running in an isolated root with only its declared dependencies. Two clean builds from the same sources produce identical binaries.
