Keyboard Shortcuts

Every command bar action shows its shortcut in the tip you get by hovering it, so this page is the whole list in one place.

Files and tabs

Ctrl+N New document, in a new tab
Ctrl+O Open a file
Ctrl+S Save
Ctrl+W Close the current tab

Formatting

Ctrl+B Bold
Ctrl+I Italic
Ctrl+1Ctrl+6 Heading level 1 to 6
Ctrl+0 Back to a normal paragraph
Ctrl+K Insert link

Strikethrough, code, lists, images, videos, tables, block quotes, footnotes and definition lists have no shortcut — they are on the command bar.

Diagrams

Ctrl+Shift+D Open the Diagram Builder on the diagram at the cursor, or start a new one
Double-click a diagram The same thing, on that diagram

Finding

Ctrl+F Find
Ctrl+H Find and replace
Enter / F3 Next match
Shift+Enter / Shift+F3 Previous match
Esc Close the find bar (while the cursor is in one of its boxes)

Folding

Ctrl+M Fold or unfold the section at the cursor
Ctrl+Shift+M Unfold every section

Collapse all sections is on the command bar's view controls and has no shortcut.

Output

Ctrl+P Print
Ctrl+Shift+P Print preview
Ctrl+C Copy (as rich text)
Ctrl+Shift+C Copy as Markdown
Ctrl+V Paste — adapts to what is on the clipboard

In the document

Ctrl+Click a link Follow it — the web in your browser, a .md file in a new tab
Click a checkbox Tick or untick that task
Double-click a diagram Open the Diagram Builder on it
Right-click a misspelling Suggestions and Add to Dictionary
Right-click a tab Pin, unpin, and the close actions
Double-click a file in the folder tree Open it in a tab (Enter does the same)
Esc Dismiss an open panel flyout
