ScannerCanoScan v1.1.0 - area selection & auto-crop

Choose a tag to compare

@3Visualcode 3Visualcode released this 07 Aug 07:38

Scan only the part of the page you care about.

What you need to download:

  • ScannerCanoScan.exe — the scanning application (portable, no installation)
  • zadig.exe — WinUSB driver installer (needed once per PC)

New in this release

  • Scan area selection — click Preview, then drag a rectangle over what you
want. Any shape: a photo, a receipt, a tall vertical strip. The size in
millimetres is shown under Scan area. A single click, or Reset to full
    area
, goes back to the whole bed.
The scanner head only travels over the selected region, so a partial scan is
    also proportionally faster.
  • Auto-crop — finds the document lying on the glass and sets the scan area
to it. Works with the lid closed (light background) and open (dark background).
  • Version number — in the window title, in the settings panel, and in the
    file properties of the executable.
  • Sharper preview — smooth scaling instead of the old integer subsampling,
and the preview now fills the window.

Upgrading

Just replace ScannerCanoScan.exe. Nothing else changes: the WinUSB driver you
installed with Zadig stays as it is, no need to run zadig.exe again.

Notes

  • Windows SmartScreen may still warn on first run — the executable is not
code-signed yet. Click More infoRun anyway. Code signing under
Host Service srl is planned for a future release; the build pipeline for it
    is already in the repository.
  • The scan-area geometry has been verified against a simulated scanner. If a
selection comes out shifted or mirrored on your model, please
    open an issue with
your scanner model — it is a one-line fix once reported.

Tested on Canon CanoScan N670U. Should work with all LM9831/2/3 scanners
supported by the SANE plustek backend (Canon LiDE 20/25/30, N650U/N656U,
N1220U, N1240U, D660U, Epson Perfection 1250/1260, HP ScanJet 2100C/2200C,
Plustek OpticPro, Mustek BearPaw, UMAX, Genius and more — full table in the
README). Compatibility reports welcome in the issues!

Thanks to everyone who sent feedback and donations after v1.0.0 — the area
selection, the auto-crop and the version number in this release were all your
suggestions.
