@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 23:43

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console: it makes the CIA. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download. Nothing in the converted data changed, but converting again is the way to get the new engine.

What's new since 0.0.8:

  • Stereo 3D reaches into the distance. The first third of the 3D slider is the 3D you had, over its whole range; the rest of the slider adds depth to everything past about 8 m, so hills, towns and the sky stand apart in layers instead of sitting on one flat backdrop. Nearer things look the same at every setting.
  • The converter's window brings your PC Morrowind saves (.ess) to the 3DS, and 3DS saves back to the PC.
  • The Saves screen opens without reading every save from the SD card, and saving no longer reads the saves folder again. The first start after updating reads your saves once to build an index; after that the list is quick, however many saves you have.
  • Quests are marked finished when a journal entry ends them.
  • A carried item's script stops however the item leaves your inventory (dropped, burned out, used up as a gem).
  • New 3DS: rainstorms get a second, fainter band of rain far out, rain behind rain. It drops out while the frame rate is under 30.
  • The Video options' hint text and the race screen's C-stick hint no longer run into the buttons or off the screen.

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console: it makes the CIA. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download. Nothing in the converted data changed, but converting again is the way to get the new engine.

What's new since 0.0.7:

  • Bartering works as in OpenMW: put together what you buy and what you sell, and only the balance is paid, by whichever side owes it. A sword sold for 5000 pays for one bought for 5000, whatever gold either of you has.
  • The barter screen shows the balance (TOTAL COST / TOTAL SOLD) beside the buttons, with - / + to haggle it 5% at a time (Y / X too). Tap the number to type an offer on the number pad. Offer settles the deal.
  • A foe killed by a weapon's on-strike enchantment no longer freezes standing up mid-blow.
  • The dead placed in the world (Shishi's, among others) lie on the floor instead of hanging a foot above it.
  • A summon caught by your own Fireball or a stray blow forgives the first few hits instead of turning on you, as in OpenMW.
  • You can no longer walk through the swung leaf of an open door.
  • A book opened from the Items menu closes back to the Items menu.
  • Fighters step down a ledge after a foe below them, and one backing away from you can only climb onto what you can.
  • Blood from a blade blow lands on the chest and is sized to the body.
  • Map: door and place squares are bigger, and the minimap outdoors shows the places you know.
  • Controls > Look speed runs 1.00x to 3.00x, 2.00x in the middle (the new default).

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install: it makes the CIA. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download.

What's new since 0.0.6:

  • Fights: a guard or any fighter now keeps walking at someone who backs away from it, even while it swings, so its blows land, and its legs keep running under the swing. Side steps in a fight are a quarter slower, as in OpenMW.
  • When you are hurt, the red flash is at the edges of the screen instead of washing over all of it, and in third person your body flinches when a blow lands.
  • Doors: people stop at a shut door and no longer see or strike through it, and pointing at a door picks the door, not a creature pressed against its far side.
  • Walking: the Kwama Forager wriggles, slow creatures' walk cycles keep their pace and walk on to the end, and walk, run, sneak and swim cycles follow the actor's real speed.
  • Shrines: a blessing can be absorbed, and Magicka keeps its share of the maximum when Intelligence changes.
  • The converter finds Morrowind's files on Linux and macOS the way it does on Windows.

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console (New 3DS or Old 3DS / 2DS): it makes the CIA for that console. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download. Convert again with this version: the moons' change below is in the converted data.

What's new since 0.0.5:

  • Menus: Items, Magic, Journal, Map, Stats and Saves on the bottom screen, the quick slots and the mini map open on the first tap again (in 0.0.5 only about one tap in three or four did).
  • Sky: by day the moons are a faint pale disk behind the clouds instead of a dark ball in front of them, and they follow their real path across the sky (Masser rises overhead instead of staying low in the west).

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console (New 3DS or Old 3DS / 2DS): it makes the CIA for that console. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download. Convert again with this version: the sounds and many of the changes below are in the converted data.

What's new since 0.0.4:

  • Sound: voices, effects and music are played by the 3DS's own sound chip, clearer than before and with no hitch when someone starts talking. Mouths still move with what is said.
  • Old 3DS / 2DS, smoother and steadier: towns cost much less time a frame, people's animation stays smooth in a crowd (the ones you look at first), cells get more of the system's time to stream in, and more memory is left for the world (sounds, dialogue and textures take less). Small clutter far off fades a little sooner.
  • Old 3DS / 2DS: far walls and walkways no longer flicker; the distant land fogs into the sky instead of standing out dark; outdoors runs at 30 fps when it can.
  • New 3DS in 3D: the right eye costs far less to draw, and 16-bit depth in 3D (Options > Display) buys a little more.
  • Character creation: class pictures, constellations and your health / magicka / fatigue on the top screen; the numbers fit their bars.
  • Falls: landing fast on a steep hill no longer drops you through it; people make a sound when they land.
  • Fights: a foe stuck behind something walks instead of skating, and keeps running with its legs moving while a spell burns it. Guards chasing something in Balmora's canal follow it in. People stay off ship hulls and out of gaps in rocks.
  • Towns: you can't sleep outdoors in town (as in Morrowind).
  • Almsivi / Divine Intervention into a place not loaded yet goes through the loading screen; the ground you'll see is loaded before the loading screen ends.

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console (New 3DS or Old 3DS / 2DS): it makes the CIA for that console. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download. Convert again with this version: most of the changes below are in the converted data.

What's new since 0.0.3:

  • German, French, Italian and Spanish text: umlauts, ß and accented letters show in the game's font (they were missing or a "?"). Polish, Czech and Hungarian letters are fixed the same way.
  • Light from the side: the low sun of morning and evening lights the walls that face it, and the moonlit side of buildings gets the night's blue light (it was a fixed mid-morning light all day).
  • Clouds spread across the sky as Morrowind's do, no longer stretched into streaks running down to the horizon. The moons cross the sky on Morrowind's path.
  • Old 3DS / 2DS: building walls are sharp again (they came out a few texels across).
  • People: an NPC whose clothes you take (a looted body) shows what is left. Followers and escorts come up stairs and slopes after you, and the prison ship's guard climbs to the deck instead of standing against the stairs.
  • Fights: creatures hit with their Combat skill, so summoned creatures actually land their blows; a foe can't climb a slope steeper than you can, so backing up a steep hill no longer ends a fight.
  • Saves: the list shows each save's level, date and time; a long place name scrolls on the selected row.
  • Startup: black instead of colourful static before the logos.

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install and your console (New 3DS or Old 3DS / 2DS): it makes the CIA for that console. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download.

What's new since 0.0.2:

  • Old 3DS / 2DS: a steady 20 fps outdoors (30 indoors), the fog closing in when it would drop below that; 32-bit colour (no more banded sky and fog); black instead of static at startup.
  • Gyro aim: no more drifting view. It calibrates when you choose a speed (lay the 3DS down for 2 seconds) and corrects itself in play; the setting is now kept between sessions.
  • GoldenEye controls: hold A to aim (tap A to activate), X readies the weapon, R winds up a blow without stopping you, aiming is full speed, and backing out of a menu with B no longer crouches you.
  • Options > Controls: one look speed for the sticks, D-pad and aiming (1.50x for new players), and a stick dead zone setting for sticks that keep moving after you let go.
  • Auto gamma brightens more in bright light on an Old 3DS / 2DS.
  • The version now shows on the HOME menu.

Unzip MW3DS-Converter, run MW3DS Converter.exe and pick your own Morrowind install: it makes the CIA. Nothing from Morrowind is in this download.

What's new since 0.0.1:

  • Rain, ash storms and blight now hang in the world (they stay put as you turn and sit at depth in 3D) instead of being drawn over the screen. A New 3DS also gets distant rain at the horizon and ripples where drops land.
  • Lamps stay lit at night, on the ground and on people; nights are dark blue as in OpenMW.
  • The player's torch lights per pixel in first person; people are lit by the lamps and torches near where they stand.
  • The HOME menu banner plays the start of Morrowind's title music (from your own install) instead of a ringing noise (#54).
