@4IngoJ 4IngoJ released this 29 Sep 07:59

Download SideSchedule-0.15.1.dmg below, open it, and drag SideSchedule into Applications — that's the whole install. Already installed? The app offers the update by itself.

New in 0.15.1

  • Fold the all-day list away. The second arrow under it shrinks the list to a row of colored dots, one per item. Rest the pointer on a dot to see its title; click it to open and edit it.
  • Long event and reminder titles wrap in the detail popover instead of being cut off.
  • After an update, a short window shows what changed.

New in 0.15.0

  • Apple Reminders in the sidebar. Tick them off, add, rename, reschedule and delete them there; changes made in Reminders or on your iPhone show up on their own. Choose the lists under Preferences → Reminders.
  • Reminders with a time sit in the timeline next to your events. Reminders for the day, overdue ones and all-day events share a new list above it, which opens with the arrow underneath or by pulling the timeline down past its top.
  • Click an empty spot in the timeline to add an event or reminder there, or drag to set its length.
  • Dragging an event to a new time is smooth now instead of shaky.
  • Events that are over before your day starts show as small dots under the all-day list.
  • The header date shortens itself in a narrow sidebar instead of cutting off the year.
  • The Sideschedule logo in the menu bar; in the month calendar today is bold and the selected day is outlined.

This release is mostly about the collapsed strip and about the one feature the app is named for.

Keeping the strip clear actually works now. Two faults were at play. A sliver of the collapsed strip was never included in the space being reserved, so a window edge always lapped over it. And any window that hadn't visibly moved by the next check was written off as refusing to be resized, then left alone for a minute — which, at a 200ms cadence, happened to browsers and Electron apps on nearly every attempt. Both are fixed, and a window that resists is now retried rather than abandoned.

Full-screen apps are left alone. The sidebar used to draw straight over them at full width, reserving nothing. macOS lets no app reserve space inside a full-screen Space, so it now steps aside and returns when you leave. There is an opt-in under Preferences → Behavior if you'd rather keep it floating there. Ordinary maximised windows are unaffected and still get moved aside.

The collapsed strip reads properly. It uses a real macOS material now, the same treatment the Dock and menu bar get, so the hour numbers stay legible over any wallpaper. Half-hour ticks sit between the hours, the hour number size is adjustable, and a new slider sets the clearance beside the strip — the gap between the now-dot and the window next to it. A lone event is drawn slimmer. The join button is gone from the strip, where a small dot now marks a meeting link; joining lives in the popover, which opens in front of other windows now instead of behind them.

Also fixed:

  • The day rolls over at midnight, instead of still showing yesterday the next morning.
  • Auto-hide no longer shrinks the sidebar while it is off screen, which could bring it back as a sliver.
  • The Preferences window no longer resizes, so it stops keeping whatever size it was dragged to.

v0.13.5

The headline of this release is full screen. Until now the sidebar drew straight over a full-screen app at full width, reserving nothing — the one thing this app exists not to do. It now steps aside while an app is in full screen and comes back when you leave. macOS lets no app reserve space inside another app's full-screen Space, so covering it was the only alternative; if you'd rather keep it floating there anyway, there's a switch under Preferences → Behavior. Ordinary maximised windows are unaffected and still get moved aside as before.

The rest is about the app saying what it knows:

  • The welcome window is reachable again, from Show Welcome Window… in the menu bar. It used to appear once and then be gone, which left anyone who deferred a permission to find Preferences on their own.
  • When window clamping is doing nothing because Accessibility was never granted, the sidebar now says so. That failure looked exactly like the feature not working, since the day still displays correctly and windows simply keep covering it. The notice can be dismissed for good.
  • The trial no longer ends without warning. The last three days carry a notice, and the day count updates on wake rather than only at launch.
  • An expired trial shows a locked menu-bar icon, so closing the license window no longer leaves something that looks like a broken app.
  • Deactivate this Mac asks for confirmation, and tells you if the activation could not be released.

This release fixes two bugs that made a first launch a dead end.

Calendar access could not be granted on macOS 15 and later. The permission prompt never appeared, so "Allow Access" did nothing however often you pressed it, and nothing showed up under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars either. The app was signed with the Hardened Runtime but carried no entitlements, and macOS refuses to show the Calendars prompt in that case. If you are on 0.13.3 or earlier, this is the update you want. Should a prompt ever be unavailable again — after a denial, or under a managed-device policy — the app now opens Privacy & Security → Calendars for you instead of failing silently.

Onboarding's "Get Started" button did nothing, and the welcome window came back on every launch. Quitting while it was open also counted as having finished onboarding, which meant it never came back at all.

Also in this release:

  • The sidebar used to render an empty hour grid when it had no calendar access, indistinguishable from a day with nothing scheduled. It now says what is missing and offers the button that fixes it.
  • "Deactivate this Mac" asks for confirmation, and releases the activation at Lemon Squeezy — so moving your license to a replacement Mac no longer costs you one of your two activations for good.
  • Diagnostics reports include the calendar authorization status.

v0.13.3

@4IngoJ 4IngoJ released this 04 Sep 21:42

Download SideSchedule-0.13.3.dmg below, open it, and drag SideSchedule into Applications — that's the whole install.

  • "Keep Windows Off Sidebar" now clears the sidebar's area of every window on screen, not just the app you're currently using
  • New preference: choose "All apps" (default) or "Frontmost app only" for that scope, under Preferences → Behavior
  • Safe against a hung background app — window detection runs off a bounded, isolated queue, never the sidebar's own UI thread

v0.13.2

Choose a tag to compare

@4IngoJ 4IngoJ released this 04 Sep 20:45

Download SideSchedule-0.13.2.dmg below, open it, and drag SideSchedule into Applications — that's the whole install.

  • Fixed: a note on a recurring event could detach and show as "Event deleted" after the source calendar re-synced (iCloud, Google, Exchange)
  • Fixed: a stale Escape-key handler could linger past a popover's own lifetime
  • Fixed: the month grid's open/closed state is now remembered across relaunches
  • Fixed: the in-app buy button showed an old €4.99 price; now correctly reads €12.99, matching checkout
  • New: brew install --cask 4ingoj/tap/sideschedule now works
  • Legal: published privacy policy and Impressum, linked from the app's About tab and the site footer

v0.13.1

Choose a tag to compare

@4IngoJ 4IngoJ released this 04 Sep 11:54

Download SideSchedule-0.13.1.dmg below, open it, and drag SideSchedule into Applications — that's the whole install.

Fixed in 0.13.1

  • Onboarding's "Get Started" button, and Preferences → Calendars' "Allow Access" button, could take a click or two to respond (or seem to do nothing) on a window that wasn't already active
  • Onboarding now has its own "Allow Access" button for Calendar and for Accessibility, each showing "Access granted" once done — instead of just explaining what's about to be requested later
  • The header now shows "No more events today" instead of a same-as-now "Next free" time once nothing is left on the calendar for the rest of the day

v0.13.0

Choose a tag to compare

@4IngoJ 4IngoJ released this 04 Sep 08:14

Download SideSchedule-0.13.0.dmg below, open it, and drag SideSchedule into Applications — that's the whole install.

Fixed in 0.13.0

  • Entering a license key (or a trial user just opening the license window) could leave the sidebar hidden until relaunch
  • "Keep Windows Off Sidebar" could show a checkmark before Accessibility permission was actually granted
  • A window that refuses to resize no longer gets fought over five times a second
  • Changing sidebar side or width in Preferences now applies immediately, even while collapsed
  • Fullscreen and other-Space windows are no longer clamped against the sidebar
  • Two rare crashes fixed: an empty-layout timing window in the timeline, and a first-launch preferences bug

New in 0.13.0

  • Pick a default calendar for new events and dropped time blocks (Preferences → Calendars)

v0.12.0
