Repository navigation
FileExplorer 0.7.9
Set up FileExplorer for a handheld or SteamOS PC, move and pack files, and manage several transfers without leaving Gaming Mode. This release also improves navigation, recovery and stored SMB credentials.
- First setup: choose Handheld or Steam PC, review the suggested appearance and edit any setting before saving. Controller help explains each option. A centered three-second splash appears once; repeating it is off by default.
- Controller navigation: Back returns one menu level, lists and menus wrap, and selecting a file advances to the next one. R3 switches between files and the toolbar; L3 hides the toolbar. Transfer controls are reachable with directional input.
- Moving and packing: Move to other panel verifies cross-filesystem transfers before removing the source. Create ZIP, 7z, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2 or TAR.XZ archives with a chosen name, compression level and destination.
- Steam integration: add supported launchers as non-Steam shortcuts and open a game's folder from its Steam menu.
- Transfer queue: run up to five copies in parallel or queue them. Browse, edit text and play media while transfers continue. Cancellation offers keeping partial copies for later or removing unfinished data.
- Consistent conflict recovery: Resume, Start again, Change name, Overwrite, Cancel and Open FileExplorer. Replacement asks whether to keep a backup; destructive overwrite is highlighted in red.
- Editor recovery: acknowledged drafts survive an interrupted editing session without changing the original file. Restore, keep or discard them when reopening.
- Encrypted SMB passwords: existing connections migrate automatically to user-scoped systemd credentials. TPM protection is used when available, with system-key storage on systems without TPM and no extra wallet password prompt.
- File lists: modification dates for files and folders, date sorting, and scrollbars that match the panel theme.
- Documentation: updated manual, source map and 104 new screenshots from a SteamOS PC and handheld. The two controller-legend comparison collages are retained.
Copy recovery supports retained partial copies. Stopped cross-filesystem moves, extraction and packing must restart. Recovery was tested with controlled process interruptions, not a physical battery cut. TPM-bound passwords cannot be recovered with the system-key fallback after losing or resetting the TPM; see the network-share guide.
Update directly from an earlier release using Decky > FileExplorer > Update, or install the attached FileExplorer-0.7.9.zip through Decky's Developer settings. No intermediate version is required. Source-code archives are not installable plugin packages.
Release checks: TypeScript, production build, eight frontend tests, and the extracted package's Linux Python suite (169 passed, one skipped because system FFmpeg was unavailable). The published 0.6.1, 0.6.3 and 0.7.1 updaters accept this package in metadata-fixture tests. The ZIP is identical to the package already checked on both devices; native UI and systemd/SMB integration evidence is described in the verification notes.
