v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@7StaSH7 7StaSH7 released this 29 Sep 11:14

What's new

  • Live steering: /sidekick steer <correction> redirects the active worker after its current tools finish. Esc still cancels; unused corrections cannot leak into the next task, including when inherited input hooks transform them.
  • Searchable model setup: filter authenticated models by provider, ID, or name, see input/cache-read/output API rates, and keep existing settings on cancellation. RPC clients retain native selection dialogs.
  • Clearer reports: Markdown worker reports use a neutral Report ready heading rather than implying verified completion. Expanded transcripts remain plain text.
  • Stronger handoffs: focused briefs carry prior findings and settled decisions; worker reports include changed paths, exact check outcomes, and open items. The lead still verifies the diff and evidence.

No extra runtime dependencies. Model/reasoning pinning, persistent checkpoints, and optional delegation remain unchanged. Background execution is not included.

Verification

  • 61 local tests passed, including native Pi steering/cancellation and transformed-input regression coverage.
  • Five live terminal checks passed: filter/cancel, setup/save, report rendering, steering, and literal Esc cancellation.
  • Package archive reviewed; test fixtures and private session data are excluded.

Install

pi install npm:pi-sidekick@0.4.0

Or use the GitHub tag:

pi install git:github.com/7StaSH7/pi-sidekick@v0.4.0

Keep only one installation enabled. Reload Pi after updating.

v0.3.0 — Sidekick for your existing workflow

Choose a tag to compare

@7StaSH7 7StaSH7 released this 28 Sep 08:32

Sidekick fits your existing workflow

Sidekick provides one persistent worker per invoking Pi session. Existing agent systems retain control of topology, scheduling, permissions, and workspace concurrency. Without another agent system, use the normal lead → Sidekick flow.

What's new since v0.2.0

  • Select authenticated models from any Pi-registered provider, including custom providers; exact model/reasoning pinning remains enforced, with no automatic fallback.
  • See elapsed task time and expand per-task activity, tool output, and reports with Ctrl+O.
  • Compare recorded API-rate estimates in clearer cost cards, the current-branch footer, and /sidekick stats all. Saved-session totals deduplicate forked records and report incomplete data.
  • Cancel any setup step without an error or changes to existing settings. Actual errors no longer get a duplicate Error: prefix.
  • Use independent Sidekick sessions without package-imposed subagent topology or native Agent/Workflow launch restrictions. Sidekick's own trust checks, worker tool restrictions, and same-batch call protection remain.

Install

pi install git:github.com/7StaSH7/pi-sidekick@v0.3.0

Run /reload, then /sidekick setup if you need to change the worker model.

Validation and limitations

51 local offline tests passed, including session independence, cancellation, host-tool non-interference, and rejection of Sidekick work when the host reports an untrusted project. CI excludes the optional workstation-only footer test. No live-provider benchmark is claimed.

Cost comparisons are API-rate estimates for recorded Sidekick tokens, not guaranteed net savings or subscription billing; they exclude lead planning/review and other agent-system overhead. Session isolation is not a filesystem sandbox. Sidekick relies on the host's reported trust status and does not repair trust inheritance in other agent systems.

The attached pi-sidekick-0.3.0.tgz contains the package. No npm registry publication is part of this release.

v0.2.0 — Sidekick, everywhere

Choose a tag to compare

@7StaSH7 7StaSH7 released this 23 Sep 09:37

Sidekick, everywhere

  • Public tool: sidekick; command: /sidekick.
  • UI, progress, errors, prompts, identifiers, and worker environment variables now use Sidekick naming.
  • New configuration: ~/.pi/agent/sidekick.json.
  • New worker sessions: ~/.pi/agent/sidekick/sessions/.
  • Devin Fusion is explicitly credited as inspiration in the README. This is an independent project, not affiliated with Cognition or OpenAI.

Safe upgrade

Existing valid configuration is imported automatically when the new configuration file is absent. Legacy state/statistics remain readable. Old checkpoint files are validated and copied into the new session directory on demand without deleting originals or overwriting existing migrated copies.

Historical session entries and release notes are not rewritten. The old tool name is no longer registered: reload extensions after updating so the lead receives the new tool and instructions.

pi install git:github.com/7StaSH7/pi-sidekick@v0.2.0

If a previous tagged source is installed, remove that package source first to avoid loading two copies. Local checkout users can update their checkout and run /reload.

Verification

Offline regression tests cover configuration precedence and invalid data, mixed legacy/new state and cost records, native checkpoint resume, repeated migration without overwrites, and rejection of external or symlink-escaped checkpoint files. No live-provider benchmark claims.

v0.1.1 — /sidekick command

Choose a tag to compare

@7StaSH7 7StaSH7 released this 23 Sep 09:04

Use /sidekick instead of /fusion for setup, on, off, status, stats, and reset. Reload extensions after updating. Existing configuration, session history, and the internal fusion_sidekick tool are unchanged. No /fusion alias is registered. Native integration tests verify the new command and all existing tests pass.

v0.1.0 — Persistent sidekick for pi

Choose a tag to compare

@7StaSH7 7StaSH7 released this 23 Sep 08:21

Your lead model, with a persistent implementation partner

First public release of pi-sidekick, a Pi extension for delegating bounded implementation and test work to a configurable OpenAI worker—without changing your lead model.

Highlights

  • Persistent sidekick context with checkpoint-aware resume and branching.
  • Configurable OpenAI/Codex model, reasoning level, and timeout; no silent fallback.
  • Live tool activity, native permission forwarding, and cancellation.
  • Delegated usage and qualified cost estimates, not benchmark or savings claims.
  • Fix for premature toolUse failures caused by the old 64-call cap.

Install

Requires Node.js 22.19+, Pi 0.87.1+, a trusted project, and an authenticated OpenAI provider.

pi install git:github.com/7StaSH7/pi-sidekick@v0.1.0

In Pi, run /reload, authenticate via /login if needed, and choose an available worker with /fusion setup.

Compatibility: commands remain /fusion, the tool remains fusion_sidekick, and existing configuration/session paths are preserved. The default model may not be available in your account; setup lets you select one you have. Do not load a local copy and this release together.

Verification and boundaries

34 offline tests pass from a clean source copy. Coverage includes 65 consecutive tool calls, model pinning, tool restrictions, native RPC lifecycle, cancellation, resume/fork, configuration, rendering, and cost accounting.

The worker edits your working tree directly. It is not a sandbox, and cancellation does not roll back changes. The configured timeout still bounds each task. Linux with Pi 0.87.1 is the CI baseline; live-provider behavior and other platforms are not covered by the offline suite.
