Branch builds can be published as GitHub pre-releases and pulled onto specific staging sites through the normal WordPress update flow. Production sites keep following stable releases, unchanged.

Each site picks a channel via WPT_UPDATE_CHANNEL in wp-config.php or the new 829 Settings → Plugin Update Channel field.

Channel Updates to
stable (default) Normal releases only
beta Newest pre-release, any branch
branch:<slug> Pre-releases from one branch only

Also adds:

  • Actions → Publish pre-release — builds any branch, publishes it as 1.9.0-<branch>.<date>.<run> with the exact define() in the release notes.
  • Automatic deletion of a branch's pre-releases and tags when its PR closes or the branch is deleted.
  • npm run set-version 1.9.0 — replaces hand-editing the version in three files.
  • README docs under Releases.
