[Bug]: App not counting warmup reps

Bug Description

When i lift, the app doesnt count up the warmup reps. After the third rep it does load the weight normally, but the display remains stuck at 0/3 calibration reps and doesnt count up reps. The workout also doesnt auto end if i leave the ROM, I have to end it manually. There is no sound feedback for the reps counting as well.

Steps to Reproduce

Just Lift on echo mode, 100% eccentric, any difficulty, Stall Detection on, Rep Count timing concentric, rest timer 120s

Expected Behavior

Warmup reps to count and then count normal reps

Evidence used

• The reporter's Galaxy S26 / Android 16 / v0.9.6 log shows that every modern (24-byte) rep event was received with repsSetTotal=252 and then rejected as TARGET_MISMATCH; warmup remained 0/3 throughout.
• The pre-RCA research found no missing clarification: the issue records the mode, settings, symptoms, and repeated device evidence.
• Source was independently inspected at ade389f.

Traced execution path

1. ProtocolParser.kt parses bytes 22-23 of a modern rep packet as repsSetTotal.
2. Echo Just Lift commands are intentionally encoded as unlimited: BlePacketFactory.createEchoControl() writes 0xFF to target-reps byte 0x05 whenever isJustLift is true.
3. ActiveSessionEngine.startWorkout() nevertheless creates an execution lease whose workingRepTarget is the UI/default exercise rep count, even for a Just Lift lease.
4. RepNotificationFreshnessGate.evaluate() accepts a modern packet only when its target is 0 or exactly equals that finite lease target. It therefore rejects the device's valid unlimited-mode effective target (252) before ActiveSessionEngine.handleRepNotification() can call RepCounterFromMachine.process().
5. RepCounterFromMachine is the component that turns modern ROM/set counts into warmup and working events. ActiveSessionEngine emits warmup and rep-count audio from those events, records warmup completion, and opens the Just Lift auto-stop gate only after warmup/ROM is established. Dropping every packet explains the frozen warmup counter, absent rep feedback, and the release/ROM auto-stop gate never becoming eligible.

Root cause

The freshness gate applies a finite-target equality rule to an active Just Lift execution even though the command protocol explicitly declares Just Lift as unlimited. Firmware then reports an unlimited-mode effective set total (252 in the reporter's packets), not the UI's finite/default workingRepTarget. This is a contract mismatch between command encoding and ingress validation; it is not a packet-parser, Samsung-device, audio, or auto-stop algorithm defect.

Binding minimal fix direction

Make the modern target policy in RepNotificationFreshnessGate.evaluate() explicitly mode-aware:

• For an active lease.isJustLift, accept the device target regardless of its numeric value. Do not special-case 252, rewrite the parsed target, or change the BLE command encoding.
• Preserve the existing active-lease, execution identity, invalidation, and post-activation-cutover timestamp checks unchanged.
• Preserve strict TARGET_MISMATCH rejection for finite-target executions.
• Make the pre-evidence terminal heuristic inapplicable to Just Lift as well: Just Lift has no finite working-rep terminal condition, so a valid post-cutover unlimited packet must not be dropped merely because its set count is at or above the lease's UI/default target.
• Do not broaden this ticket to AMRAP or other modes without separate device evidence and tests.

A narrow implementation shape is to gate the target-equality and finite-terminal checks on !lease.isJustLift; this keeps all stale-event isolation rules intact while matching the existing isJustLift lease field and 0xFF command semantics.

Required regression coverage

1. Extend shared/src/commonTest/kotlin/com/devil/phoenixproject/presentation/manager/RepNotificationFreshnessGateTest.kt with a post-cutover Just Lift lease and a modern packet carrying repsSetTotal=252. Assert it returns Process (or arms then processes according to the existing evidence path), and assert that the same packet remains TARGET_MISMATCH for a finite lease.
2. Add an active-session harness regression adjacent to the existing Just Lift lifecycle coverage in DWSMWorkoutLifecycleTest.kt (or an issue-specific manager test): start direct Just Lift, emit post-cutover modern 252 packets with ROM progress, then assert warmup advances from 0/3 and the freshness gate reaches Armed. A follow-up working packet should reach RepCounterFromMachine; it must not force finite-target set completion.
3. Retain the existing pre-cutover and invalidated-lease rejection tests. Add a Just Lift packet whose count exceeds the UI/default target before first evidence to prove it is not treated as a finite terminal packet.

Acceptance criteria

• In Echo Just Lift, a valid post-cutover modern packet with unlimited-mode repsSetTotal=252 reaches RepCounterFromMachine; warmup visibly advances and its normal audio/event path executes.
• Just Lift release/ROM auto-stop can become eligible after warmup/ROM is established.
• A finite execution still rejects a post-cutover packet whose nonzero target differs from its lease target.
• Pre-cutover, invalidated, and non-current execution packets remain rejected.
• No parser conversion, command-protocol change, or broad refactor is included.

Verification note

This RCA is source-trace evidence, not an implementation claim. The local RCA host has no Java Runtime, so the required Kotlin regression tests must be run by the downstream fixer in a JDK/CI environment.

Architecture review: APPROVED

Reviewed the RCA fix direction against source at ade389f.

Root cause confirmed. BlePacketFactory.kt:165-168 encodes Just Lift target as 0xFF (unlimited), but ActiveSessionEngine.kt:2860-2863 sets workingRepTarget to the finite UI rep count. RepNotificationFreshnessGate.kt:59-61 then rejects every valid packet as TARGET_MISMATCH because repsSetTotal=252 != the finite lease target. The reporter's logs confirm this on every rep.

Architectural assessment:

• Breaking changes / migration: None. The fix is internal to RepNotificationFreshnessGate.evaluate(). No schema, API, or data migration.
• Pattern alignment: Strong. ExecutionLease.isJustLift already exists (WorkoutExecutionGuard.kt:66). The gate already exempts target == 0 for timed cable. Gating target-equality and finite-terminal checks on !lease.isJustLift follows the same pattern used throughout ActiveSessionEngine for Just Lift exemptions.
• Cross-system risk: None. Mobile-only change — no portal, Supabase, or edge function involvement.
• Scope: Minimal and focused. One method in one file, plus regression tests in existing test files. No parser, command encoding, or broad refactor.
• Terminal-before-evidence bypass: Architecturally correct. Just Lift has no finite working-rep terminal condition, so a valid post-cutover unlimited packet must not be dropped as terminal.

One observation (not a blocker): AMRAP also encodes 0xFF (BlePacketFactory.kt:369) and would have the same TARGET_MISMATCH if its firmware reports an effective target of 252. The RCA correctly scopes this fix to Just Lift only. If AMRAP users report the same symptom, a separate ticket with its own device evidence and tests should handle it.

Required regression coverage (from RCA):

1. RepNotificationFreshnessGateTest: post-cutover Just Lift 252 packet accepted; same packet remains TARGET_MISMATCH for finite lease.
2. DWSM Just Lift harness: post-cutover 252 packet advances warmup from 0/3 and arms gate without forcing finite-target completion.
3. Pre-cutover, invalidated, and non-current execution packets remain rejected.

The fix direction is technically sound and approved for implementation.
