Ascendix Advisor Alpha 7

Pre-release

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 20 Oct 05:51

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.7

Update every Mac before approving new Microsoft 365 permissions. This includes QA Macs and VMs signed in through Ascendix Advisor. Alpha 7 accepts additional Microsoft Graph permissions returned with a sign-in; older builds can stop working with Microsoft 365 when an unfamiliar permission comes back: they ask you to sign in again, but that sign-in is refused too. Administrator approval stays on hold until all those Macs run Alpha 7.

Keep every signed-in Mac updated before adding colleagues or shared-file access. After colleagues have been added, builds older than Alpha 6 can lose Teams and the colleagues setting. Older builds do not support the new file-access settings. Avoid downgrading a signed-in Mac. Older builds also hide all waiting skill-review cards while an agent-written skill is staged; return to Alpha 7 to review them.

What's new

  • Skills the agent writes for you. Ask the agent to turn useful work into a skill. Read its exact instructions on the review card and choose whether to add it. Updates to your own skills also wait for review.
  • Edit part of a file. The agent can change selected text without replacing the whole file. Approval cards show the changed lines and any folders to create. A file changed while its card waits is refused so the agent can read it again.
  • Salesforce in Connections. Sign in from the built-in Salesforce row using your organization's setup code, then turn on “Use Salesforce in this workspace” where needed. Production and sandbox have separate codes. Permissions group reading and changing records. Your administrator must set up the Salesforce app and records service first; Salesforce may bill usage to the organization.
  • Clearer Microsoft 365 approval requests. “Copy approval request” names the access needed and the Microsoft Entra admin center path. It copies text for you to send; it does not send anything or approve access.
  • Files shared in Teams, after administrator approval. In workspaces with Teams on, the agent can read and save files shared in messages. Editing also needs administrator approval, connection-level editing access and the workspace's editing setting. Every shared-file change asks first and refuses an out-of-date version. This does not add general OneDrive or SharePoint browsing. Successful live file operations remain to be checked after the ordered tenant rollout; the preliminary live check verified the not-approved states and refusals.
  • More useful failure explanations. Several file, task, skill and approval failures now give the agent the actual cause. Saved-file and settings failures are reported more clearly. Answering an approval after its request has ended no longer runs or allows anything, including “Allow for rest of task”.

Known limitations

  • The first message in an older conversation can wait several minutes for a one-time summary rebuild (#1160).
  • A conversation that already used a skill may keep its earlier version after the library is updated. Try the new version in a workspace that has not used it (#1143).
  • Turning an attachment/file-save tool Off after allowing a batch does not stop its remaining local saves; they can continue until the batch finishes or reaches its time limit (#1230).
  • Returning to Alpha 7 after a downgrade and signing in as a different Salesforce account can leave the row naming the earlier account (#1198).
  • After a changed-file refusal, the workspace badge can say Idle while the agent is still working (#1228).
  • Counted prompt size can trail the provider's count; an overshoot of about 2.5% of the smart zone has been observed, not established as a maximum (#1145). A limited-memory line can also appear on a refused run (#1120).
  • Mail searches can end with empty pages that still carry a continuation cursor (#1115). An offline update download is described as a failed check (#1159).

For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later.

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.6

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 17 Oct 20:03

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.6

Update every Mac before adding colleagues. This includes any QA Mac or VM signed in to Microsoft 365. Your administrator must wait until all of those Macs run Alpha 6 before approving the new directory permissions in Entra. Alpha 5 and earlier cannot accept those permissions and can lose Microsoft 365 access when its sign-in renews.

Do not go back to an older version on a Mac after colleagues are added. An older build reads that sign-in as mail only: Teams tools disappear until Teams is added again, and the next renewal removes the colleagues setting. Keep every signed-in Mac on Alpha 6 or later.

You can now find and pin colleagues from your company directory, read their work profiles, and ask about mail involving them. Directory access becomes available after your administrator approves it and you enable it for the workspace.

Mail searches can find messages by sender, participant, company domain, words, conversation and date across mailbox folders. Word and participant searches exclude Deleted Items and Junk Email. Teams lists also have more stable ordering.

The app now lists every model your ChatGPT account offers and sizes each one correctly. Switching models no longer permanently shortens a conversation's memory.

Long conversations are summarized less often, with summaries prepared in the background while you are away. This reduces the wait when you return. The first message in a long Claude conversation after this update may take longer once.

Known limitations:

  • A date-limited mail search can reach an empty page while more pages remain, causing the agent to stop early (#1115).
  • The app can underestimate the size of its next request. One observed request exceeded its target size (the smart zone) by about 2.5%; this is not a guaranteed upper bound (#1145).
  • A “Summarizing earlier conversation…” line was seen staying on after summarizing had finished. This has been observed once and has not been reproduced (#1146).
  • A limited-memory notice can appear on a run the service refuses before answering (#1120).

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.5

Attach images, documents, and pasted content directly to a chat. Sent messages show their attachments, and the agent can read attached files again later in the conversation. Image understanding is available on Claude and ChatGPT.

In the Command Center, "Attach a file" now attaches the file to your message. To add a file chosen with that button to your workspace's sources, select "Keep as a source."

Choose Ask first, Auto-approve, or Don't ask from the chat composer or workspace settings. When Auto-approve leaves an action to you, the card says why. Approved command prefixes can be saved for later runs, and file-reading commands such as pdftotext run without asking.

Helpers can now read everything the agent can, including the web and connections. Changes stay with the main agent.

Existing workspaces with "Ask me" turned off are now in Don't ask. This also runs commands and connection changes without asking. Choose Ask first if you want approval prompts for those actions.

Microsoft Teams chat, channel, and meeting transcript reading becomes available once your Microsoft administrator approves the added permissions. Install this version or later on every Mac signed in to Microsoft 365 before that approval is granted; Macs on older versions will need to sign in again. Each workspace has its own Teams access control.

This alpha also improves approval status messages and connection settings.

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 14 Oct 16:27

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.4

For Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer.

New

  • Read email and calendar attachments. Ask the agent to read a document attached to a message or meeting. Supported documents and plain text can be read in parts; other attachments are listed with an explanation when their contents cannot be read.
  • Save attachments into your workspace. The agent can save attachments into a folder you added to the workspace, following that workspace's file-creation approval setting. Existing files are preserved, identical copies are not saved again, and different files with the same name receive a numbered name. While a saved file is unchanged, the agent can tell you which email or meeting it came from.
  • Microsoft 365 in the Command Center. On My Tasks, choose ⋯ → Edit… → Advanced to let the Command Center and your personal tasks use your connected mail and calendar.

Improved

  • The Microsoft 365 option in New workspace and Edit workspace can take you through sign-in directly. After you next sign in, the connection can show your account name.
  • When Microsoft 365 is turned off for a workspace, the agent explains where to turn it on.
  • Long calendar ranges come back in parts the agent can continue from. Long messages and meetings say what was cut. A mail list too long for one reply asks the agent for fewer messages.
  • Folder references in workspace chat reach the agent so it can work with folders you have granted access to.

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.3

Pre-release

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 13 Oct 12:04

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.3

The second alpha of Ascendix Advisor for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer. It installs over 0.1.0-alpha.2 through Restart to update, and your saved work carries over unchanged.

New

  • Microsoft 365 mail and calendar. Sign in with your work account in Settings, then turn on "Let the agent use Microsoft 365" for a workspace. The agent can list and read your mail and calendar events and write reply drafts. It never sends, deletes, moves or changes anything, and every draft asks first, showing its recipients and text.
  • The agent can run commands. In a workspace that lets the agent run code and commands, the agent can ask to run a command on your Mac, in one of the workspace's folders. Every command asks first and shows the exact command and folder. It runs with your own access, with a time limit, and you can stop it.
  • Stop asking in this workspace. Approval cards for file changes and web reads offer a choice to stop asking in that workspace. The conversation always shows which setting is in effect, with a link to change it.
  • The agent remembers without asking. Updates to a workspace's runbook no longer show a card. Each one is still shown under the agent's answer, and you can undo it there.
  • Newer models. The app notices when your model service offers new models and lets you choose them. It shows which version of Claude Code it uses and can update it when you click.
  • Deadlines. The agent can propose a deadline for a task. The deadline applies only once you accept it.

Changed

  • Under an earlier answer, a line names anything that has changed since, such as a task that was completed or a file that was edited. A source you removed is labelled as removed, not unavailable.
  • The status report has a new, fixed layout: at a glance, what needs you, plan against delivery, recent changes, coming up, deliverables and sources.
  • When a deliverable run fails because its results came out in the wrong form, it says so, with the technical detail under Details.
  • Many smaller fixes, including reaching mail older than the newest 25 messages, and the workspace dialog now closing when you save.

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 09 Oct 07:28

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-alpha.2

The first alpha of Ascendix Advisor for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer.

Install it by opening the disk image and dragging Ascendix Advisor onto the Applications folder shown beside it, then opening it from Applications. If the app is opened from anywhere else, it says so and does not update itself until it has been moved.

Updates are checked for automatically and downloaded in the background. Nothing is installed until you choose Restart to update, and a restart requested while work is running waits for that work to finish and be saved. Before an update changes saved data, a copy of it is preserved.

QA acceptance 8 — Ascendix Advisor update target (relaunch fix)

@acxtodd acxtodd released this 26 Sep 14:33

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-acceptance.8

QA acceptance build for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer.
For testing in a separate macOS account; not a user-facing alpha release.

Built from the September 26 main snapshot (7e82225f). After Restart to update, the app now relaunches through macOS normally and reopens the workspace you were in.

This pair tests that relaunch: install or update to acceptance.7 first, then update from acceptance.7 to acceptance.8. The fix runs in the version you update from, so only the acceptance.7 to acceptance.8 update shows it. Both builds contain the same application code; only their version metadata differs.

This is the update target. The acceptance feed advances to acceptance.8 only for the update test.

Ascendix Advisor 0.1.0-acceptance.6

QA acceptance build for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer.
For testing in a separate macOS account; not a user-facing alpha release.

Built from the September 25 main snapshot (f10fdad7), including agent memory and recall, the agent's own tasks, deliverable reach, working code execution on macOS 27, Undo feedback while the agent is working, and credential redaction in diagnostics.

This pair exercises installation, sign-in, and the acceptance.5 to acceptance.6 update with saved work on macOS 27. An account already on acceptance.4 is offered acceptance.5, which moves its saved data to the current format. Both builds contain the same application code; only their version metadata differs.

This is the update target. The acceptance feed advances to acceptance.6 only for the update test.
