Models, data and forecasting chains

Jafet Andersson edited this page May 18, 2026 · 5 revisions

The table below lists the configurations of the different forecast chains running on PHARES. A forecast chain (or pipeline) consists of a hydrological model forced by meteorological data for the historic initialisation period (termed "analysis" below), meteorological data for the forecast period, and (in some cases) assimilation using local hydrometric gauges.

Column explanation

  • ID: a numeric indentifier of the foreast chain. Part of the name shown in the visualisation platform.
  • Name: short name of the forecast chain, as shown in the visualisation platform.
  • System: which forecasting system that the foreast chain is part of.
  • Hydrological model: the hydrological model used in the simulations.
  • Meteorological analysis data: the meteorological forcing data used to initialize the hydrological model (i.e. for past dates up to now).
  • Meteorological forecast data: the meteorological forcing data used to forecast a future period.
  • Data assimilation: indicates if data assimilation is included in the forecast pipeline or not, and if so by which method.
  • Forecast chain and API zone: technical name for the forecast chain, also used as zone name in the APIs.
